Division II Women's Gymnastics Awards - Feb. 7
CENTERVILLE, Mass. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference has released the fourth weekly awards for ECAC Division II women’s gymnastics on Tuesday. The following are the recipients – pictured left to right are Stephanie Schuler, Emily Turik and Melissa Voskian – for the period ending Sunday:
Gymnast and Rookie of the Week: Stephanie Schuler, West Chester University, Fr., Purceville, Va.
Schuler recorded her career-best meet this past weekend against Division I Temple University and Ursinus College. The freshman was instrumental in helping WCU establish a program record team score of 189.775, breaking the previous record of 188.2 previously set this year. Schuler registered her career-best score (9.75) on the vault, tying for first place in the meet as well as equaling the school record. On the uneven parallel bars, she posted a career-best (9.675) to set another WCU all-time standard. Schuler won the all-around competition (38.325) with a WCU-record performance. In all, the Golden Rams broke seven program records at the triangular meet.
Specialist of the Week: Emily Turik, University of Bridgeport, Soph., Crystal Lake, Ill.
Turik continued her strong start to the 2012 campaign on the bars by setting a school record in the event and tying for first place with a score of 9.825. Bridgeport defeated Division I Towson, 194.625 to 192.475, in a dual meet on Friday evening. UB’s total score of 194.625 is a team record.
Coaches’ Pick of the Week: Melissa Voskian, West Chester University, Jr., Brielle, N.J.
Voskian posted her career-best scores on the vault and floor exercise last week, helping the team in its efforts to break the program record with 189.775 points in a meet. With a 9.575 performance, she also helped the Golden Rams beat their vault record with a 47.9. The junior worked hard in practice last week and made great progress to help WCU score big on the weekend – seven school records were established – at the Ken Anderson Invitational hosted by Temple University. She also registered a 9.45 on the floor exercise. The coaches are proud of her.
