Dr. William Moore was a former coach and Athletics Director at Central Connecticut State University and is a member of the CCSU Alumni Athletics Hall of Fame.
Moore served as the head men’s basketball coach at Central Connecticut from 1953-59 and as the head football coach from 1959-61. Moore also coached the golf team during his time with the Blue Devils. In 1962, he went on to become the Athletics Director, where he oversaw the building of Kaiser Hall, the home of CCSU Athletics, and guided the Blue Devils from NAIA to NCAA Division II status
. Moore served as the Director of Athletics at Central Connecticut for 20 years before moving on to the University at Albany to become the Director of Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation.
While at Albany, Moore served as the president of the ECAC in 1985-86 and was named the ECAC Administrator of the Year in 1993. He was then honored with the ECAC James Lynah Distinguished Achievement Award in 2000. Moore also served as a member of the ECAC Division III Basketball Selection committee.? In addition to Moore’s ECAC accolades, he was also inducted into the University at Albany Hall of Fame in 1996 and received
the Lifetime Achievement Award from the All-American Football Foundation in 1997.
In 1994, Moore was named the Commissioner of the New England Collegiate Conference and later served as the Commissioner of the Little East Conference. Moore was the first independent commissioner of the Little East Conference and oversaw the operation of the conference office between 2000 and 2008. In 2012, Moore was inducted into the Little East Conference Hall of Fame.
