Lindenwood Leaps into National Polls; Joined by Lake Erie, Seton Hill and Mercyhurst

DANBURY, Conn. – The four teams that comprise the 2015 ECAC Division II Lacrosse Tournament Championship field that is slated for this upcoming weekend in Greensburg, Pa. found themselves ranked in the latest United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Poll released on Monday. Lake Erie College (No. 6), Seton Hill University (No. 9), Lindenwood University (No. 11) and Mercyhurst University (No. 14) all earned spots in the final weekly poll of the regular season. The Storm, Griffins and Lions also snagged positions in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings at No. 5, No. 8 and No. 14 respectively.

No. 6/5 Lake Erie College split a pair of games to end the regular season this past week and earned the No. 2 seed in next weekend’s ECAC Tournament. The Storm snagged a 13-6 conference-win over Walsh on Friday before falling 9-8 to Queens University on Sunday. Senior midfielder Reagan Harding (Saskatoon, Sask.) once again led the way for the Storm, combining to score a team-high eight goals, to go along with two assists. Lake Erie will begin its quest for a second-consecutive ECAC Tournament Championship on Friday afternoon against Mercyhurst. The Storm defeated the Lakers by a score of 9-7 on April 15.

No. 9/8 Seton Hill University dropped its first ECAC contest of the season this past Saturday when they fell in overtime, 11-10, on the road at No. 11 Lindenwood. The Griffins complete the regular season with a 9-4 overall mark and a 6-1 mark in ECAC play. Seton Hill earned its first-ever ECAC regular season title and will host the ECAC Tournament for the first time in school history. The Griffins will get a rematch with Lindenwood on Friday at 11 a.m in the first semifinal of the tournament. Dylan Gelven (Northville, Mich.) and Marc Piche (Adams Center, N.Y.) each scored three times in the loss to the Lions.

No. 11/14 Lindenwood University closed out the 2015 regular season in style, defeating Rockhurst University and No. 9 Seton Hill by identical 11-10 scores. Junior Jon George (Carmel, Ind.) led the charge for the Lions, notching five goals and three assists in the two victories. Senior Graeme Hossack (Port Perry, Ontario) was the hero against Seton Hill as he knocked in the game-winner in overtime, his second goal of the game. Lindenwood secured the No. 4 seed in the upcoming ECAC Tournament and will take on the top-seeded Griffins on Friday morning.

No. 14 Mercyhurst University clinched a berth into the ECAC Tournament with a come-from-behind 10-9 victory over Wheeling Jesuit on Senior Day this past Saturday. The Lakers trailed by as much as 6-2 in the first half before scoring eight of the final 11 goals of the game. Senior Trevor Vargo (Orchard Park, N.Y.) scored a career-high five goals and added an assist for a career-best six points in the win. Junior Cory Becker (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) added three tallies while senior Brett Williams (Fulton, N.Y.) and junior Shane Endres (Rochester, N.Y.) had the others. Mercyhurst will enter the ECAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will play against second-seeded Lake Erie College in a semifinal matchup.
