Gettysburg College Celebrates 50th Anniversary of Winning Lambert Cup

Bookmark and Share

In 1966, Gettysburg shocked many when the Bullets captured their first and only Lambert Cup, which was given to the best small college football team in the East. In an interesting twist of fate, the prestigious trophy never made it back to campus and the majority of the team never saw it.

Rod Albright, a tri-captain on that 1966 team set out to change that, and began trying to track down the current custodians of the Lambert Cup. After a few calls to various organizations, Albright contacted the ECAC, which had the cup in its possession.

From there, the wheels were set in motion for a reunion half a century in the making. Players from the 1966 squad descended on Gettysburg for a weekend of celebration, ceremonies and reflection about that special season.

Throughout the festivities, the ECAC caught up with members of the championship team to hear their thoughts on what it meant to hoist the cup that year and the feeling it brings to them 50 years later.
