Cardinals Sweep ECAC Women's West Weekly Awards

DANBURY, Conn. – The ECAC Women’s West Hockey League has announced its weekly award recipients for the week ending Nov. 27.
 
The Plattsburgh State Cardinals swept the weekly honors after winning the Panther/Cardinal Classic over the weekend. Junior Melissa Sheeran collected Player of the Week honors, while goaltender Camille Leonard was named the Goalie of the Week. Defenseman Hannah Kiraly capped off the weekly accolades with the Rookie of the Week.

Sheeran recorded six points on five goals and one assist as Plattsburgh State posted a 3-0 week, capped by winning the Panther/Cardinal Classic at Middlebury College. Sheeran, who also eclipsed the 100-career point mark over the weekend, logged a pair of multi-point games in the process. She deposited two goals in Tuesday’s 7-3 non-conference win at Castleton University before netting a pair of goals in Saturday’s 5-0 win against No. 3 Adrian (Mich.) College. During Saturday’s game, she became just the 12th player in program history to eclipse the 100-career point mark. Sheeran wrapped up the week by burying the game-winning marker in Plattsburgh State’s 2-1 victory over No. 5 Middlebury in the Panther/Cardinal Classic Championship. With four points on the weekend, Sheeran was named the Classic’s most outstanding player.

Leonard logged three wins, one shutout, a 0.75 goals-against average and a .962 save percentage as Plattsburgh State beat two top-5 nationally-ranked teams last week. After earning a win in relief against Castleton on Tuesday, Leonard recorded a 20-save shutout as the Cardinals blanked No. 3 Adrian (Mich.) College, 5-0, on day one of the Panther/Cardinal Classic at Middlebury College. Leonard capped her week with 24 saves in Sunday’s Panther/Cardinal Classic 2-1 win over host No. 5 Middlebury on Sunday. Leonard was also one of seven players chosen for the Classic’s all-tournament team after the Cardinals captured their fifth tournament crown in a row.

Kiraly posted five points on five assists as Plattsburgh State went 3-0 last week. The freshman dished three helpers, including the primary assist on the game-winning goal, in Tuesday’s 7-3 non-conference victory at Castleton University. She then assisted twice more as Plattsburgh State beat No. 3 Adrian (Mich.) College, 5-0, on day one of the Panther/Cardinal Classic at Middlebury College. Kiraly also played a key role in the Plattsburgh defensive unit that allowed just one goal throughout the Panther/Cardinal Classic.
