ECAC Announces 2016 DIII Metro/Upstate Men's Lacrosse All-Stars

DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016 Division III Metro/Upstate Men's Lacrosse All-ECAC Selections and major award winners.

St. Lawrence University collected a pair of major awards, as junior Connor Healey collected the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year Award and Mike Mahoney was honored as the coach of the year. Matt Hossack from the Rochester Institute of Technology was named the defensive player of the year, while SUNY Canton's Kyle Smith earned the award for top rookie.

Offensive Player of the Year
Conor Healey - St. Lawrence University, Jr., Attack

Healey was a key offensive catalyst for the Saints in 2016, racking up 38 goals and 38 assists for 76 points in 15 contests during the regular season. The junior was named the Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year for his efforts, and continued his strong play in the postseason as St. Lawrence advanced to the national semifinals. Including postseason play, Healey ended the campaign with a team-best 95 points (49 goals, 46 assists), and was recently named a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III Second Team All-American.

Defensive Player of the Year
Matt Hossack - Rochester Institute of Technology, Sr., Long-Stick Midfield

After collecting a share of the award in 2015, Hossack earns the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year Award outright in his senior season. A USILA DIII First Team All-American, Hossack played a vital role in the RIT defense in 2016, scooping up 87 groundballs and causing 20 turnovers while winning 55.9 percent of his faceoffs (57-of-102). The senior chipped in offensively as well, finding the net on 10 occasions and collecting eight assists for 18 points.

Rookie of the Year
Kyle Smith - SUNY Canton, Fr., Attack

Smith established himself as an offensive force in his first season for the Roos, posting a team-best 63 points on 24 goals and 39 assists in 14 games played. The freshman notched at least one point in every game, and recorded multiple points on 11 occasions. Smith also chipped in defensively, scooping up 48 groundballs and causing 13 turnovers.

Coach of the Year
Mike Mahoney - St. Lawrence University

Mahoney led St. Lawrence to the best season in program history in 2016. In his 19th year at the helm, the Saints posted a 15-1 regular-season record and earned their first NCAA Tournament bid since 2009, reaching the national semifinals.
