ECAC Announces 2016 DIII South Women's Lacrosse All-Stars
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016 Division III South Women's Lacrosse All-ECAC Selections and major award winners.
Salisbury University collected two major awards, as Megan Wallenhorst was honored as the top offensive player and Jim Nestor was named ECAC Coach of the Year. Emily Moatz from Lebanon Valley College received the accolade for defensive player of the year, with Moravian College's offensive standout Jillian Picciuto earning rookie of the year honors.
Offensive Player of the Year
Megan Wallenhorst - Salisbury University, Sr., Attack
Wallenhorst takes home the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year after earning a share of the corresponding award in the Capital Athletic Conference. The senior racked up 56 points on 22 goals and 34 assists in the season, helping Salisbury capture its 14th conference championship in succession. For her efforts, Wallenhorst was recently named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-American First Team.
Defensive Player of the Year
Emily Moatz - Lebanon Valley College, Sr., Defense
Moatz was a force on defense for LVC in 2016. The senior finished second in the MAC Commonwealth with 2.06 caused turnovers per game, and closed the regular season with a team-best 33 caused turnovers and 32 groundballs, third-most on the team. In addition to her ECAC recognition, Moatz earned regional honors with a nod to the IWLCA Metro Region Second Team.
Rookie of the Year
Jillian Picciuto - Moravian College, Fr., Attack
On a team full of freshmen, Picciuto proved to be head-and-shoulders above the rest in 2016. The first-year Greyhound averaged over six points per game, compiling a remarkable 102 points on 64 goals and 38 assists in 16 tilts, nearly double the total of the next-closest Moravian player. A four-time ECAC DIII South weekly honoree, Picciuto was the only freshman to finish the season ranked in the Top-10 nationally in points.
Coach of the Year
Jim Nestor - Salisbury University
Nestor guided the Sea Gulls to a 14-2 record and an unblemished 8-0 mark in conference play in 2016, as Salisbury claimed the regular-season and tournament championships. Nester was voted the Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for the fourth-consecutive year, and 12th time overall.
