ECAC Announces Football Players of the Week for Week Ending Oct. 8

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Football Players of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8.
 
DIVISION II
Offensive Player of the Week
Marc Jones – JR, RB, Gannon University
 
Jones recorded 261 rushing yards, a school-record six rushing touchdowns, two receptions, 22 receiving yards and 283 all-purpose yards during a 47-25 victory against Edinboro. The junior recorded the third-highest single-game rushing total in school history. Jones entered the day as the leading rusher in NCAA Division II, and produced his sixth consecutive 100-yard rushing performance and seventh in 17 games as a Golden Knight. 
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Geremy Paige – R-JR, LB, Gannon University
 
Paige led the Gannon defensive unit for the second consecutive week with 10 tackles and two tackles for a loss during a 47-25 victory against Edinboro. The linebacker tied a season-high in tackles, reaching double-digits for the second time this season. He was consistent throughout the game, recording multiple tackles during three of four quarters.  
 
Special Teams Player of the Week
Cody Waddell – SO, K/P, Lincoln University
 
Waddell kicked two extra points and one field goal in the Lions 45-23 loss to Virginia Union. He also threw one pass as part of a fake punt attempt which was completed for 43 yards taking the Lions from a fourth-down-and-five situation to a first and goal at the four-yard line, setting up the Lions first touchdown two plays later. The sophomore averaged 47 yards per kick on four kickoffs and 31.7 yards  per punt on three punts, including one inside the 20-yard line.
 
Rookie of the Week
Jimmy Keefe – R-FR, QB, Gannon University
 
Keefe topped the 200-yard passing plateau for the second-consecutive week and threw a touchdown for the third-consecutive game. Overall, Keefe completed 12 passes on 22 attempts, threw for 203 yards and the touchdown pass.
 

DIVISION III - North
Offensive Player of the Week
Alex Corvese – SR, QB, Curry College
Corvese played a role in all four of Curry’s touchdowns in a 30-27 victory over UMass Dartmouth. The senior produced two scores through the air as two of his 29 completed passes were for touchdowns. Overall he threw for 377 yards with a 65.9 completion percentage and a 148.3 efficiency rating. He also rushed 13 times, including a pair of touchdown runs.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Ryan Bronson – JR, LB, Ithaca College
 
Bronson recorded three tackles, an interception and recovered a blocked punt in the end zone for a touchdown during Ithaca's 46-6 win at Rochester.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week
Marc Mrozerk – JR, K/P, Curry College
 
Mrozek produced six points in Curry’s 30-27 win over UMass Dartmouth. He converted his only field goal attempt, a 23-yarder, and also made three extra points. In the punting game, Mrozek averaged 41 yard per punt on three attempts. His longest went for 57 yards and he had one kick inside the 20.
 
Rookie of the Week
Wahid Nabi – FR, QB, Ithaca College
The freshman completed 17-of-21 passes (80.9 percent) for 206 yards and a touchdown in Ithaca's 46-6 win at Rochester. Nabi is just the fourth quarterback in school history to complete more than 80 percent of his passes in more than 10 attempts. He also recorded 33 rushing yards on three carries.
 

DIVISION III – South
Offensive Player of the Week
Paul Columbo – SR, QB, Westminster College
 
Columbo finished 13-of-15 passing for a season-high 271 yards and tied a career high with four passing scores in Westminster’s 66-12 win over Saint Vincent. With his performance, he secured second place all-time on the school’s career passing touchdowns list with 51.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Nick Murgo – SR, LB, Washington & Jefferson College
 
Murgo finished with a team-high 11 stops (five solo) and a sack in a 27-20 win at Carnegie Mellon. He also returned a second quarter interception 51 yards for a score to give the Presidents a 14-0 lead over the Tartans.
 
Special Teams Player of the Week & Rookie of the Week
John Cybak – FR, K, Westminster College
 
Cybak drilled a career-long 43-yard field goal during Westminster’s 66-12 victory at Saint Vincent. He was also a perfect 9-for-9 on extra points.
