ECAC Announces Men's Soccer Players of the Week for Week Ending Oct. 1
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Men's Soccer Players of the Week for the week ending Oct. 1.
DIVISION II
Offensive Player of the Week
Sukira Dudic - JR, F, University of New Haven
Dudic finished his week with five points, including a pair of goals in a 2-1 win over American International, the first victory of the season for New Haven. The junior scored the opening goal against the Yellow Jackets in the 33rd minute. In a second-straight win, a 2-1 win over Franklin Pierce, Dudic again helped provide some heroics, this time providing the cross that led to Mawasi Charles game-winning goal with 25 seconds remaining.
Defensive Player of the Week
Noah Varonier - SR, GK, Southern Connecticut State University
Varonier led Southern Connecticut to two wins last weekend, making six saves across the two matches. The senior made four saves in a 2-1 victory over No. 14 Southern New Hampshire University, then made two more stops ina 3-1 win over Assumption.
Rookie of the Week
Ignasi Cererols - FR, M, Southern Connecticut State University
Cererols tallied three assists last week to help the Owls to wins over No. 14 SNHU and Assumption.
DIVISION III - METRO
Offensive Player of the Week
Fabio DeSousa - SO, F, Rutgers University - Newark
De Sousa scored five goals in four games and added two assists, as the No. 9/3 Scarlet Raiders went 3-1 on the week. De Sousa scored in all four games, including a two-goal output in a conference win over TCNJ. He added a goal each in wins over NJCU and Staten Island along with the team's lone score in a 2-1 setback to No. 21 Amherst. The sophomore now has goals in six-straight games and seven of eight overall.
Defensive Player of the Week
Dan Sulpizio - SR, GK, DeSales University
Sulpizio extended his scoreless streak to 569:52 minutes with two more shutouts to lead DeSales to a 2-0 week. The senior has posted six-straight shutouts and eight on the season. Sulpizio made six saves on seven shots in a 3-0 win over Albright to begin the week. He then made three saves on seven shots in a 2-0 win over FDU-Florham to open conference action.
Rookie of the Week
Damian Duda - FR, F, St. Joseph's College - Long Island
Duda factored into both of the Golden Eagles' tallies in a 2-2, midweek draw at Mount Saint Vincent. The freshman netted one goal, while assisting on the other tally.
DIVISION III - NORTH
Offensive Player of the Week & Rookie of the Week
Nathan Firlings - FR, F, Husson University
Firlings had a big week for the Eagles, recording five goals and two assists as his team went 3-0. The rookie tallied the first goal for Husson in each game. In a 2-1 win over Maine Maritime, he scored one goal and earned one assist. Then in a 4-0 win over Lyndon, he netted two goals and dished an assist. To end the week, the forward found the back of the net twice in a 6-1 victory over Johnson.
Defensive Player of the Week
Will Marment - SO, GK, Vassar College
Marment led Vassar to two conference wins last week. The sophomore posted shutouts against both Bard and Union while collecting four saves in 180 minutes of action.
DIVISION III - SOUTH
Offensive Player of the Week
Zack Masciopinto - JR, F, Carnegie Mellon University
Masciopinto started the week scoring two goals as the Tartans topped NYU, 3-1, at home. The junior scored the game's first goal in the third minute and the game's last goal in the 66th minute. His second goal came 10 minutes after NYU cut the deficit in half. The junior now leads the team with six goals for the year.
Defensive Player of the Week
James Snyder - JR, GK, Waynesburg University
Snyder posted back-to-back shutouts in goal for Waynesburg, which went 2-0 this past week. He collected three saves in a 1-0 home win against Shenandoah before making one stop in a 2-0 victory at Saint Vincent.
Rookie of the Week
Steven Haines - FR, D, Waynesburg University
Haines led a Waynesburg defensive effort that produced two shutouts this past week. The Jackets allowed just eight total shots (three on goal) during a 1-0 win over Shenandoah. The Orange and Black clamped down even harder against Saint Vincent allowing seven total shots (one on goal) during a 2-0 victory over the Bearcats.
