ECAC DII Wrestling League Preseason Poll
DANBURY, Conn. – Limestone College has been selected to finish first in the ECAC Division II Wrestling League in 2017-18, as voted on by the league’s head coaches. The Saints received five of the seven first-place votes in the preseason poll. Limestone will look to repeat its success from 2016-17 with the return of All-ECAC First Team selection, Matt Rudy.
Newberry College finished in second with 43 points after their successful 2016-17 season. The Wolves return All-ECAC second team selections, Jordan Simpson and Patton Gossett. King University who finished in fifth place in 2016-17, jumps to number three in this year’s preseason poll. The Tornados will return two All-ECAC First Team winners in Dustin Kirk and Bryce Killian.
UNC Pembroke who finished last year 7-6 overall and 4-2 in conference collected 21 points in the poll. The Braves will look to have another successful season returning ECAC All-Second Team selections, Tyler Makosy and Eric Milks for the 2017-18 campaign. Emmanuel College, coached by last year’s Coach of the Year, Jake Brumbelow, took fifth in the poll with 21 points. After finishing 4-2 in conference, good enough for third, Brumbelow will aim for a higher finish with the Lions this year.
Belmont Abbey College received 17 points to rank sixth in the preseason poll. The Crusaders boast last year’s ECAC Rookie of the Year, Greg Hilliard. Rounding out the preseason poll is Coker with 11 points.
The 2017-18 wrestling season will open tomorrow.
