Limestone Advances to the 2017 ECAC DII Field Hockey Championship Game

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Two goals from Kate Remley and a strong defensive effort helped the Limestone College Saints (145-3, 9-1 ECAC) advance to the 2017 ECAC DII Field Hockey Championship game after defeating the Newberry College Wolves (6-13, 3-7 ECAC) by a score of 2-1.
Remley (Chesapeake, Va.) scored both of her goals in the first half. The first goal came just over four minutes into the game. Kate Norman (Wirral, England) took a shot, and Remley collected the loose ball and shot it into the back of the net. Norman picked up the assist on the play.
Later in the half, Remley took a penalty stroke. She was able to convert on the chance to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Saints took 18 shots on the game, ten of which were on goal. Remley also led the Saints in the shots department with six, four of which were on goal. Norman contributed four shots, one of which was on goal.
Newberry had stellar goalie play from Dakota Elzy (Louisville, Ky) who in 70 minutes of action stopped multiple opportunities for Limestone to extend their lead. She made seven saves in the game.
Throughout the game the Newberry offense was trying to penetrate the tough Limestone defense. Their lone shot of the game came in the second half. Kristyna Oyola (Virginia Beach,Va.) deflected a ball in front of the net for what also was Newberry’s only goal of the game.
The Saints will face the Lindenwood University Lions in the Championship game at 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Wolves will take on the Bellarmine University Knights in the Consolation game at 10:30am.
