Massa's Hat Trick Sends Stockton into Semifinals

MADISON, N.J.
- Led by a hat trick from senior Alexa Massa (Moorestown, N.J.), the Stockton University field hockey team defeated Albright, 4-2, at Stockton Turf Field Wednesday evening in the ECAC Division III Field Hockey Championship Quarterfinals.

Massa scored twice in the opening half, first off a Victoria Caiazzo (Manahawkin, N.J.) corner less than 10 minutes into the game. She added another tally at 19:58 off Casey Cordonna (Barrington, N.J.) feed into the arc.

Albright senior Amanda Long (Easton, Pa.) tapped in her team-leading 11th goal of the year with just under six minutes remaining in the first period to cut the Ospreys' lead in half, but Brittany Stein (Ocean City, N.J.) extended the Ospreys' lead back to two less than five minutes later with her seventh goal of the year, an unassisted tally.

Stockton carried the 3-1 lead into the break, but Long fed junior Annette Helmandollar (Glenolden, Pa.) for her fifth goal of the year at 40:58 to bring the Lions back within one.

Massa added her third strike in the 60th minute of the game, connecting on a Stein corner. Stockton held an 11-7 advantage in corners and outshot Albright at a 14-8 clip.

Stockton senior goalkeeper Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton, N.J.) made three saves to improve to 5-6. Albright junior Aileen Taylor (West Chester, Pa.) stopped seven shots in the loss.

Albright wraps up its season with a 9-10 record. Stockton (11-8) will face top seed Alvernia (13-8) in the semifinals Saturday, Nov. 11 in Reading, Pa. The championship game is slated for a noon start on Sunday, Nov. 12, also at Alvernia.
