Columbia and Cornell Advance to ECAC DI Men's Indoor Tennis Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - 
The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) concluded its second day of the 2017 Division I Men’s Indoor Tennis Championship at Princeton University on Saturday, with No. 19 Columbia University and Cornell University advancing to Sunday’s championship round with semifinal victories.
 
In the first match of the day, University of Pennsylvania sophomore Kyle Mautner, junior Matt Nardella and senior Thomas Spratt led the squad recording wins in both singles and doubles. St. John’s lone point of the day came from Ogi Trejgut as he defeated Gabe Rappaport, 6-3, 6-3 in singles.  The Red Storm will face off against Yale at 8 a.m. Sunday morning while Penn will play Harvard Sunday at 4 p.m.
 
In Saturday’s first semifinal, No. 19 Columbia shut out Dartmouth in a quick 4-0 match. Lions senior Shawn Hadavi and freshman Jackie Tang teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match then went on to win No. 1 singles and No. 3 singles respectively. Dartmouth will play Princeton University next at 10 a.m. Sunday to determine a third-place finisher. No. 19 Columbia advances to the championship to be played Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. against Cornell University.
 
Cornell University secured a win over host Princeton in Saturday’s second semifinal, edging out the Tigers, 4-1. The Tigers started the day with two doubles wins, notching the first point, but the Big Red quickly took over the match in singles action. Seniors Colin Sinclair and Bernardo Casares and freshmen Lev Kazakov and Pietro Rimondini all collected a win in singles action. Princeton will resume action Sunday at 10 a.m. to take on Dartmouth followed by a 1 p.m. match up between Cornell and No. 19 Columbia.
 
In the final match of the day, Harvard University completed a sweep of Yale, 4-0. The Crimson came out strong behind doubles pairs Brian Yeung and Kenny Tao and teammates Chris Morrow and Logan Weber. Yeung went on to win his singles match, while Andy Zhou and Grant Solomon also pulled out wins for Harvard.
 
Dartmouth will take on Princeton to determine a third-place winner at 9 a.m. Sunday morning, while the championship match between No. 19 Columbia and Cornell is set for 1 p.m. Additionally, St. John’s will face off against Yale at 8 a.m. and Penn will play Harvard at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
