Schettino, Toney Highlight 2016-17 Division III Metro Men's Basketball All-Star Selections
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016-17 Division III Metro Men’s Basketball All-ECAC selections and major award winners.
Frank Schettino from the College of Staten Island was selected as the ECAC Division III Metro Men’s Basketball Player of the Year, while New Jersey City University’s Sam Toney secured top rookie honors. Chuck McBreen from Ramapo College collected the Coach of the Year accolade to round out the major awards.

Schettino earns the ECAC DIII Metro Men’s Basketball Player of the Year honor after an outstanding season for Staten Island. In 27 games during the regular season and conference tournament, the senior averaged 17.9 points per game to go along with 7.2 rebounds per game. In addition, Schettino claimed the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Player of the Year award after being named CUNYAC player of the week five times this season. The three-time Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) Player of the Week also finished the regular season as the the NCAA leader in total assists, free-throw attempts and triple-doubles (5) while finishing second in assists per game.

Toney, the 2016-17 New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Rookie of the Year, took his conference by storm, finishing the season with 436 total points (12 points per game), 163 rebounds (5.8 rebounds per game), 33 assists and 22 steals. The freshman claimed eight NJAC Rookie of the Week awards out of 15 possible weeks, and led all NJAC freshmen in scoring and rebounding throughout the entire season. A three-time Met Basketball Division II/III MBWA Honor Roll honoree, Toney helped NJCU post its second-consecutive 20-win season as the Gothic Knights cracked the national rankings for the first time since the 1990s.
McBreen led the Roadrunners to one of the best records in program history, posting a 25-2 mark through the regular season and conference tournament. Under McBreen, Ramapo finished the regular season atop the NJAC, and went on to claim the conference tournament championship as well, defeating NJCU to earn an NCAA berth.
