Arcadia Claims ECAC DIII Softball Championship Over Stockton; Good Named MVP
BOX SCORE
GLENSIDE, Pa. - Arcadia University captured the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Softball Championship on Sunday, defeating Stockton University in five innings, 11-3, at Blankley Field on the campus of Arcadia.
Arcadia's Jack Bilotti had a brilliant day at the dish, going 4-for-4 with three RBI and two extra-base hits. Bekah Good, the tournament's most valuable player, went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run. Tori Zangrilli and Mary Pat Murray each had two RBIs for the Knights as well.
Murray picked up the win in the circle, tossing five innings and striking out one to help Arcadia secure a second ECAC title in as many years.
For Stockton, Alexandra Cosenzo and Danielle Lugo each had a hit and an RBI. Hannah Bibeault took the loss for the Ospreys after allowing six earned runs in 0.2 innings pitched.
Following a straightforward top of the first, Arcadia jumped out to an early lead in the bottom half and never looked back. The Knights sent 14 batters to the plate in their first turn at the dish, recording eight hits to push across nine runs.
Zangrilli started things with a two-run single that scored Bilotti and Amanda Hess. After an infield fly for the first out, Good stepped up and walloped a three-run blast over the right field fence to make it 5-0 Arcadia.
The Knights were not done there though. Up for a second time in the frame, Bilotti lined a single to left to score Kaylee Zarick. Hess then blooped a double to right field to chase home Kayla Resh for a 7-0 lead, before Mary Pat Murray singled between second and first to score Hess and Bilotti to hand Arcadia a 9-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second, Bilotti tacked on two more RBIs to her day when she roped a double down the left field line to score Resh and Zarick.
Stockton answered back with a run of its own in the top of the third though, as Cosenzo scored on Danielle Lugo's single to cut into the deficit, 11-1.
The Ospreys scratched across two runs in the top of the fifth to cut the deficit to 11-3, but they would get no closer as Arcadia closed out the five-inning win by virtue of the run rule.
