ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Awards
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announces its weekly awards winners for women's gymnastics for the week of competition ending Jan. 21.
Division I
Gymnast of the Week
Sahara Gipson – Temple University, Sr., Oakland, New Jersey
Gipson had three solid performances competing at UNC over the weekend. Her vault routine garnered a high score for her during the meet of 9.7. The 9.7 also helped the Owls get a team mark of 48.625 at the vault. She continued her day by hitting identical scores of 9.675 with her floor and beam routines.
Specialist of the Week
Jessica Wang – Yale University, Jr., Chino Hills, California
Wang had a fantastic uneven bars routine in its first home meet of the year competing against University of Pennsylvania. Her routine was good enough of a score of 9.85. That score was impressive in many ways. It was team high, it received her first place on the event and was also a meet high score for any event.
Rookie of the Week
Katie Waldman – College of William & Mary University, Fr., Omaha, Nebraska
Waldman had an outstanding afternoon that saw her capture fourth in the all-around at a North Carolina State tri-meet. She received multiple career highs in achieving her 38.925 all-around score. Her other career highs came in the vault (9.8) and uneven bars (9.775). She finished off her weekend tying her career high on the beam with a score of 9.75.
Coaches Choice
Jordyn Oster – Temple University, Fr., Perry Hall, Maryland
Oster helped the Owls in a big way this past weekend as she had to fill in for an injured teammate. She was able to fill in and work to compete on the beam and floor exercise. She came in and received a beam score of 9.725 and a floor score of 9.7. Both scores were good enough to be counted toward the team total as Oster played a vital role.
Division II
Gymnast of the Week
Maya Reimers – University of Bridgeport, So., New York, New York
Maya Reimers competed in her first all-around for the 2018 season. She started off her 2018 all-around campaign by leading her team in two events and helping them post a season high for the team score. Reimers tied for first with a score of 9.825, her highest mark of the day, in the floor exercise. She continued an outstanding meet a vault score of 9.675, bars score of 9.6 and a beam score of 9.75. The marks combined gave her the all-around score of 38.85 to win the all-around competing against Brown.
Specialist of the Week
Lauren Ramirez – University of Bridgeport, Fr., Gilbert, Arizona
Ramirez specializing on the balance beam this year performed an outstanding routine this past weekend. The freshman scored the highest score for the team this week with a 9.8. That mark was also good enough for her to claim first place on the beam for the Purple Knights.
Rookie of the Week
Cadi Borsellino – Southern Connecticut State University, Fr., Channahon, Illinois
Freshman Cadi Borsellino completed a feat that hasn’t been done in almost a decade for the Owl’s. Borsellino posted an impressive all-around score of 38.025 competing against Cornell and SUNY Cortland. She finished second in the all-around and placed seventh on the floor with a score of 9.6, seventh on bars with a 9.65 and 10
th on beam with a 9.375.
Coaches Choice
Lindsey Mathis – West Chester University, Jr., Waldorf, Maryland
Mathis performed great in her lone event this past weekend competing against Ursinus College. Her score of 9.525 was good for third in the event and helped West Chester to sweep all four events at the dual meet.
