Temple Claims First Ever ECAC Women's Cross Country Championship

BRONX, N.Y. – Temple University claimed its first-ever title at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division I Women's Cross Country Championship on Saturday at Van Cortlandt Park.
The Owls placed five runners in the top 10 blowing out the competition with a 76-point victory over runner-up Marist, 23-99.
Grace Moore (Merrick, N.Y.) led Temple capturing the individual title for the first time in Temple women’s cross country history with a time of 16 minutes, 41 seconds in the 5K run. Manhattan senior
Lisa Fajardo (Brooklyn, N.Y.) followed recording a time of 16 minutes, 47 seconds. The two were the only competitors to break 17 minutes.
Marist’s second-place team finish was secured by
Maria Smith (Wading River, N.Y.) joining the top 10 with a time of 17 minutes, 20 seconds. The Red Foxes had three others finish in the top 20 contributing to the team’s 99-point total.

Kira Von Ehren (Krefeld, Germany),
Lucy Jones (Leicester, England),
Michelle Joyce (Stroudsburg, PA.), and
Millie Howard (North Yorkshire, England) joined Moore in the top 10. Von Ehren placed third in 17:01, Jones placed sixth in 17:09, Joyce placed eighth in 17:11 and Howard placed ninth in 17:17.
Stony Brook (135), George Mason (141), Siena (131) and Fordham (170) rounded out the top six teams. Despite Holy Cross’ 12
th place team finish, Junior
Jenna Gasparrini (Ridgefield, CT) broke the top five finishing fourth individually in 17:05. George Mason’s
Siobhra O’Flaherty (Carlow, Ireland) earned the top place by a freshman for the day, rounding out the top five in 17:06.
St. John's junior
Antonia Howard (Sydney, Australia) won the ECAC Coaches race in 17:52. This marks the second year in a row a St. John’s runner has placed first in the Coaches race.
