ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Award Winners
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announces its weekly awards winners for women's gymnastics for the week of competition ending Feb. 18.
Division I
Gymnast of the Week
Jacey Baldovino – Yale University, Fr., Santa Clara, California
Freshman Jacey Baldovino continues her stellar first year by winning her first gymnast of the week award. Baldovino again raised the bar in setting her career high in the all-around. Her new mark of 39.25 is the third highest in Yale history. To complete her outstanding score Baldovino posted a vault score 9.75, uneven bars (9.8), balance beam (9.875) and a floor exercise of 9.825. Her scored helped the Bulldogs top William & Mary and finish with a team score of 194.7 second highest in school history.
Specialist of the Week
Jessica Wang – Yale University, Jr., Chino Hills, California
Junior Jessica Wang had a great weekend specializing in the bars and beam. Her beam routine garnered a 9.8 score which is a season high for her. Wang’s uneven bars routine set a new career high for her. The routine scored a 9.9 which claimed first place in the Bulldogs last home meet of the season. The mark also continued a six week streak of scoring 9.8 or better on the bars.
Rookie of the Week
Katie Waldman – The College of William & Mary, Fr., Omaha, Nebraska
Katie Waldman set new career highs in the all-around and the vault this past weekend as the team traveled to Yale. Her new career high for the all-around came in at 38.95 good for third in the meet. Her new career high in vault is a 9.825 which won her the first place in the event. She rounded out her career high all-around score with a bars score of 9.725, beam (9.65) and floor exercise (9.755).
Coaches Choice
India Anderson – Temple University, Jr., Allendale, South Carolina
India Anderson came in and competed for the Owls for the first time this year. The junior was returning from a 2017 injury and was originally not scheduled to score for Temple. Anderson was originally slated to compete as an exhibition. A last-minute change was needed to be made for the floor routine and Anderson stepped up in a big way scoring a 9.7.
Division II
Gymnast of the Week
Kathryn Doran – University of Bridgeport, Fr., Oak Villa, Ontario
Doran had a solid meet this past weekend as the Purple Knights competed in a quad meet. She posted a top score for the all-around with a mark of 38.6. Doran highlighted her day with a score of 9.8 for her bars routine. Her vault score marked a 9.5, a beam routine of 9.725 and a floor score of 9.525 completed her score in the all-around.
Specialist of the Week
Kelli Tereshko – University of Bridgeport, Sr., Madison, New York
Tereshko garners her second consecutive specialist of the week award after posting another great bars score. She tied her teammate and anchor on the event, Kathryn Doran, with a score of 9.8.
Rookie of the Week
Melanie Wojedwoda – West Chester University, Fr., Amelia, Ohio
Melanie Wojewoda set a new career high this past weekend at the Ken Anderson Invite. Wojewoda competed in the uneven bars event and finished fourth place in the quad meet. Her routine and career high is now 9.775.
Coaches Choice
Allie Lesperance – Southern Connecticut State University, So., Valrico, Florida
Lesperance and the Owls competed in a tri-meet this past weekend at Towson. She led the team on the vault and finished fourth place overall with a score of 9.75. Lesperance also completed a floor routine that score 9.475 for the Owls.
