ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Awards

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announces its final weekly awards for the 2018 women's gymnastics season.

Gymnast of the Week
Tori Edwards – Temple University, Fr., Haymarket, Virginia
 
Edwards closes out her first-year regular season on a high note winning ECAC gymnast of the week. This past weekend Temple competed at Kent State against their host and George Washington. In her final regular season meet of the year Edwards posted a new career high all-around score of 39.175 which was second out of the all-around competitors. To achieve her new career high she scored a 9.775 on vault, 9.725 at bars, 9.8 on the beam and placed second in the meet with a floor routine score of 9.875. Edwards will look to finish off the year strong this weekend when the Owls head to the University of Pennsylvania for the ECAC Championship.

Specialist of the Week
Alex Hartke – University of Pennsylvania, Sr., Montgomery, New York
 
Hartke finished off her season strong in her specialty the floor exercise. The senior helped the Quakers to win the event over ECAC opponent William & Mary. Hartke’s score of 9.85 helped the team score a 48.575 for the event. Hartke and the rest of the Quakers will host the ECAC Championship this Saturday as they look to finish the season off with a win.

Rookie of the Week
Jacey Baldovino – Yale University, Fr., Santa Clara, California
 
Jacey Baldovino closes out her freshman regular season campaign racking up another weekly award. All together Baldovino has been recognized seven times throughout the year for her accomplishments. The Bulldogs competed against Bridgeport, Brown and Centenary this past weekend where Baldovino saw herself win the all-around with a score of 39.075. She also placed first on vault with a new career high of 9.8. She also scored a 9.75 on bars, 9.775 on beam and a 9.75 on floor. Baldovino secured her spot as the number one ranked all-around gymnast in the ECAC and also qualified for NCAA Regionals in the all-around

 Coaches Choice
Maggie McAvoy – Brown University, Sr., Charlotte, North Carolina
 
Senior Captain Maggie McAvoy closes out the regular season winning coaches choice. In the final meet of the regular season McAvoy competed in just one lone event, floor exercise. McAvoy completed her floor routine not using her arms to garner a score of 9.6 to close out her regular season. The senior will look to put a cap on her career as a Bear when Brown joins its ECAC competitors at the University of Pennsylvania this Saturday for the championship.

Gymnast of the Week
Meghan Chan – West Chester University, Sr., Northvale, New Jersey
 
West Chester closed out its regular season with a home meet and senior day last weekend. Chan a senior from Northvale New Jersey ended her regular season on a high note. She scored a 9.7 on vault which earned her second place. She was third place on the uneven bars with a score of 9.7 and finished off her season with a season high and victory on the balance beam with a score of 9.8. Chan will look cap off her career as a Golden Ram when the team heads to Southern Connecticut for the ECAC Division II Championship.
 

Specialist of the Week
Kelly Aycock – University of Bridgeport, Jr., Locust Grove, Georgia
 
Aycock had a great meet for the Purple Knights as they tried to close out the regular season strong. The Junior specializes in the uneven bars and the floor exercise each week for the team. This weekend she scored a 9.75 on bars and placed second with a 9.85 behind her teammate Maya Reimers who finished with a 9.925.

Rookie of the Week
Keara Loughlin – Southern Connecticut State University, Fr., Lowell, Massachusetts
 
Loughlin set a new person-best score on the balance beam this past weekend. Loughlin was the Owl’s top finisher on the day and placed second overall with a score of 9.775. The score helped the Owls to a new program record on the beam with a 48.625. The Owls also set a new team-program record score with a 192.25. Southern will host the ECAC Division II championship this Saturday at 1:00pm.
 
Coaches Choice
Delaney Cahill – University of Bridgeport, Jr., Medford Lakes, New Jersey  
 
Cahill, 2016 ECAC Gymnastics Rookie of the year returned this season after missing her sophomore campaign. She now specializes on the balance beam and leads the Purple Knights off for the event. With her consistent effort and scores Cahill helps the team start out strong every week. To finish off the regular season was no different as she scored a 9.75 on the balance beam which helped lead the team six for six beam streak going for the first time this year.
