ECAC Announces Baseball Players of the Week for Week Ending April 8.

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Baseball Players of the Week for the week ending April 8.
 
DIVISION II
Player of the Week
Kyle Cox – Sr., OF, Gannon University
 
Kyle Cox went 9-for-16 (.563 BA), at the plate last week against the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The senior scored seven runs and knocked in nine RBIs on the weekend. In game two on Friday, Cox went 3-for-4, with two home runs, three runs scored and six RBIs. He followed that up with a 5-for-5 game on Saturday, scoring two runs and knocking in three RBIs.
 
Pitcher of the Week
James Varela – Jr., P, LIU Post
 
Varela threw his fifth consecutive complete game, tossing all 10 innings in the
series-opening win against Queens College. He scattered eight hits and allowed just
one run while striking out 10 batters. He improved to a perfect 7-0 on the season with the win.
 
Co-Rookie of the Week
Max Steele – Fr., P, Adelphi University
 
Steele pitched six innings in an 11-0 shutout victory over Molloy College on Wednesday. He did not allow a hit until the third inning, and only allowed two overall. Steele struck out four Molloy batters and did not allow the Lions to score in six innings pitched.
 
Co-Rookie of the Week
Dillon Champagne – Fr., P/UT, Salem University
 
Last week, Dillon Champagne showcased his power, hitting 5-for-13 in six games with three home runs, including a grand slam in Salem University’s 28-12 victory over Lincoln University. Champagne finished the week with nine RBIs and six runs scored. In the second game against Lincoln, he hit a key two-run home run in the fifth inning and finished with three RBIs in the Tigers' 8-7 victory. While pitching against the University of Charleston, Champagne went 6.1 innings, striking out eight while allowing just two earned runs in a 5-4 loss. The Tigers went 3-3 on the week. 
 
DIVISION III - METRO
Player of the Week
Colman Hendershot – Jr., 1B, New York University
 
Colman Hendershot helped lead the Violets to a 4-0 week as he hit .471 (8-for-17) and drove in 11 runs this week. The junior also came around to score eight times, including once on his second home run of the season. Hendershot hit four extra-base hits this week and was also a perfect 4-for-4 on the base paths. 
 
Pitcher of the Week
Matthew D’Ambrosia – So., P, Muhlenberg College
 
D'Ambrosia pitched a three-hit shutout, allowing just one free pass and fanning a career-best 15 in Muhlenberg College’s 1-0 win against Dickinson College. His 15 punch-outs were the most by a Muhlenberg pitcher in 31 years.
 
Rookie of the Week
Michael Matusz – Fr., P, Rutgers University-Newark
 
Michael Matusz earns the Rookie of the Week honor after pitching Rutgers University-Newark to a 9-4 win over Rutgers University-Camden on Saturday. He went 6.2 innings, giving up just three earned runs on five hits while fanning eight (five looking).  
 
DIVISION III – NORTH
Player of the Week
Colin Kelly – So., IF, Union College
 
Collin Kelly hit .500 (8-for-16) over four games in a weekend sweep of Clarkson University. He led the Dutchmen with a 1.250 slugging percentage, hitting three home runs and three doubles. He also recorded eight RBI's and totaled 20 bases. 
 
Pitcher of the Week
David Griffin – Sr., P, Curry College
 
Curry College senior David Griffin was absolutely dominant in a 3-0 complete-game shutout of Gordon College on Saturday.  In seven innings of work, Griffin allowed just two hits and two walks, while striking out a career-high 13 batters. The senior retired seven consecutive batters early in the contest as well as the final 10 batters he faced, eight on strikeouts.
 
DIVISION III – SOUTH
Player of the Week
Chris Seibert – Sr., SS, Wesley College
 
Chris Seibert batted .611 (11-for-18) with two home runs, seven RBIs and six runs scored in Wesley College’s six games last week. The senior also drew 10 walks to reach base at a .767 mark on the week. Against Penn State University-Harrisburg, Seibert became Wesley's all-time home run leader with the 22nd home run of his career.
 
Co-Pitcher of the Week
Alex Marrs – Sr., P, Wesley College
 
Wesley College senior Alex Marrs was named Co-Pitcher of the Week after picking up a win and a save in three appearances last week. Marrs posted a 0.00 ERA with 13 strikeouts and just four hits allowed in 11.1 innings of work. He tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout win with 10 strikeouts in Wesley's 6-0 win over Penn State University-Harrisburg on Thursday, before earning the save in the Wolverines' 7-6 victory over York College of Pennsylvania.
 
Co-Pitcher of the Week
Alex Ross – Sr., LHP, Johns Hopkins University
 
Alex Ross was named Co-Pitcher of the Week after a dominant outing against Muhlenberg College. The senior twirled a four-hit complete-game shutout with one walk and a career-high 15 strikeouts.  
 
Rookie of the Week
Sawyer Kline – Fr., P, Penn State Altoona
 
Kline had a great day out of the bullpen for the Lions in a doubleheader sweep ofAlfred State College on Friday. In game one, he threw a perfect inning out of the pen as part of a pitching staff that limited Alfred State to just one run and four hits. In game two, the freshman recorded his first collegiate victory by pitching 4.2 innings in relief and allowing two runs while striking out five batters. On the week, Kline pitched 5 2/3 innings and gave up seven hits and two runs while issuing no walks. He struck out five and posted a 3.18 ERA.
