ECAC Announces Men's Basketball Players of the Month for December
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Men's Basketball Players of the Month for December.
Division II
Player of the Month
Malik Toppin - Sr., F, Salem University
Toppin averaged 20.4 points and 11.8 rebounds for Salem University helping the team to five wins over the course of December. The senior from Bloomfield, NJ had his first 20-20 game of the season against Ohio University where he totaled 24 points and 21 rebounds. He also scored 30 points twice during the month coming against Carlow University and Wheeling Jesuit University.
Rookie of the Month
Ronnie Silva - F., G, Adelphi University
Silva started in four of five contests for Adelphi averaging 11.6 points and 3.2 assists and 3 rebounds. He was named Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week. Silva helped the Panthers out at the free throw line where he went a perfect 8-8 in the month.
Division III - NORTH
Co-Player of the Month - North
Patrick Mahoney - So., F, RPI
Mahoney received Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll twice in the month of December. He averaged 20.3 points and 7.0 rebounds. He led the team in almost every statistical category that included field goals made (23), field goals attempted (40), three-point field goal percentage (34.3), free throws made (10), free throws attempted (12), points (61) and points per game. His month was highlighted by a 26-point nine rebound game against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
Mark Mullins - Jr., G, Wilkes University
Mullins helped Wilkes to a 5-1 record during December including two wins to start Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play. The junior averaged 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.8 assists, while shooting 56.7 percent from the floor. Mullins was a force attacking the rim as he got to the free-throw line 31 times making 27 for a 87.1 percent mark.
Rookie of the Month
Mason Memmelaar - Fr., F, RPI
Memmelaar got off to a hot start in December with a 14-point, five rebound and two assist performance against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in just 14 minutes of action. He would go on to average 7.3 points and 3.0 rebounds during the month. He was also named Liberty league Rookie of the Week once.
DIVISION III - SOUTH
Player of the Month
Brian Cameron - Jr., G, Wesley University
Cameron averaged 28.3 points and seven and a half rebounds in six games during the month of December. He was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week twice and was named the Atlantic East Conference Player of the Week on Dec. 17. He scored 20 or more points in five of the six games during the month and scored a career-high 38 points on Dec. 19 against Misericordia University. Cameron added 20 assists and paired that with stellar shooting percentages, 53.4 percent from the field and 43.9 percent from behind the arc.
Rookie of the Month
Jack Kusters - F., G, Penn State Altoona
Kusters scored in double figures in four of the Lions' five games during the month. He shot 50 percent from the field including a 14-for-28 total from three-point range. He averaged 15.2 points per game and totaled 11 steals and eight assists.
DIVISION III - METRO
Player of the Month
Sean Smith Jr. - So., G/F, Manhattanville College
Smith had a fantastic December as he averaged 26.3 points and 10.3 rebounds while shooting 51 percent from the field. His month was highlighted with a 46-point performance against Wilkes University setting a new single game program record. He was named MAC Freedom Player of the Week twice (Dec. 3 & Dec. 10) and was also named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week (Dec. 11). Smith was a scoring machine as he scored in double-figures in all six games which included five double-doubles and five 23-plus point performances.
Rookie of the Month
Jailen Jamison - F., G, Kean University
Jamison earned the Rookie of the Week honors twice during the month of December. He averaged 11.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists over seven games. Against Rutgers University - Camden He scored eight points but had a great defensive game totaling 13 rebounds and eight steals. At the end of the month Jamison got his scoring going as he posted a 19-point game paired with 11 rebounds against the College of St. Elizabeth and a 20 point game against Stevens Institute of Technology.
