ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Honors
DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announces its weekly awards winners for women's gymnastics.
Division I
Gymnast of the Week
Jade Buford – Yale University, Jr., Coppell, Texas
2018 ECAC Gymnast of the Year Jade Buford is awarded her first Gymnast of the Week award in 2019. Buford won the all-around and helped lead the Bulldogs to a victory at home over University of Pennsylvania. She started the day off for the squad at vault scoring a 9.65. She kept her consistency and excellent scores going as she scored a 9.7 on the uneven bars, a 9.775 on the beam and anchored the floor routine with a 9.725. Her scores added up to a early season high in the all-around with a mark of 38.85
Specialist of the Week
Cassidy Jung– Brown University, Sr., San Marino, California
Jung, a senior from San Marino California earned a career high score on the beam. She earned a score of 9.85 with her performance which also won her the event and guided the Bears to a season high score on the apparatus.
Rookie of the Week
Samantha Sakti – The College of William & Mary, Fr., Arcadia, California
Sakti helped the Tribe to a second-place finish at the season opening Towson University Quad meet. She led the team on vault with a top score of 9.75. Her highlight of her collegiate debut was winning the floor title with an impressive 9.925. This mark also tied the school record.
Coaches Choice
Jordyn Mannino – University of Pennsylvania, So., Manhasset, New York
After competing on the uneven bars just twice in 2018 Mannino went back to the event this past weekend to score a career high. On the uneven bars she scored a 9.675. She also competed in the floor exercise for the Quakers score a 9.8 to lead the team. Her 9.8 score is her second-best mark ever competing in that event.
Division II
Gymnast of the Week
Jessica Meakim – West Chester University, So., Downingtown, Pennsylvania
2018’s Rookie of the Year, Jessica Meakim, earns her first weekly award in 2019. She placed second on vault with a score of 9.375. Meakim also won the floor exercise with the highest score of the meet at 9.825.
Specialist of the Week
Keara Loughlin – Southern Connecticut State University, So., Lowell, Massachusetts
Loughlin competed in just one event for the Owls against Brown University. She scored a team leading 9.75 on the balance beam which stood as the third best score at the meet.
Rookie of the Week
Cassidy Girolamo –Southern Connecticut State University, Fr., Newington, Connecticut
Girolamo became just the second gymnast over the last decade to compete in the all-around for the Owls. She was also the only gymnast in a meet against Brown University that competed in all four events. She scored a team high 9.675 on vault to finish third at the event. She scored a 9.65 on beam, a 9.625 for her floor routine and a 9.4 on the uneven bars. Her scores added up to a 38.35. A mark that out did Cadi Borsellino who had been the first athlete in a decade to compete in the all-around at a meet last year.
Coaches Choice
Yoli Nodarse – West Chester University, So., Pompton Plains, New Jersey
Nodarse was able to compete her way into the floor exercise line-up for the Golden Rams. She led the team off for the event scoring a 9.675 helping the team to their best overall score for an event at the meet. Her score also placed her third for the floor exercise. Nodarse also competed on the balance beam for the team scoring a 9.65 placing her in second.
