ECAC Announces Football Players of the Month for September
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Football Players of the Month for September 2019.
Division II
Offensive Player of the Month
Paul Dooley, Sr., QB, West Chester University
Dooley has West Chester University at 4-0 on the year and ranked 16th in the national coaches' poll. The senior quarterback is averaging 209 passing yards per game and 51.26 rushing yards per game as a dual threat, throwing five touchdowns and running in four on the year.
Defensive Player of the Month
Jackson Taylor, Fr., LB, West Chester University
Taylor is leading West Chester in tackles with 21. The freshman linebacker has posted two and a half tackles for loss while adding one interception and one pass break up in coverage for the Rams.
Special Teams Player of the Month
George Lambritsios, Jr., Punter, West Chester University
Lambritsios has punted 16 times this season, putting seven of them inside the 20. Averaging 46.5 yards per punt, his long on the season is a ridiculous 73 yards.
Rookie of the Month
Izaiah McPherson, Fr., DB, West Chester University
McPherson has played in all four games this year for West Chester with five solo tackles, one assist, and six total tackles. He posted a team leading two interceptions and two break-ups in coverage.
Division III - North
Offensive Player of the Month
Anthony Caserta, Jr., QB, FDU - Florham
Caserta was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week once this September after he tossed seven touchdowns in the Devil's season-opening win over Merchant Marine Academy. Caserta has 1,059 passing yards and has thrown 10 touchdowns while completing 58.1 percent of his passes.
Defensive Player of the Month
John Sadak, Sr., LB, RPI
Sadak has led the RPI defense to a 3-1 record. He leads the Engineers in solo tackles (15), assisted tackles (13), total tackles (28), tackles for lost yards (4.5) and interceptions (1) after not playing the second half of two games this season.
Special Teams Player of the Month
Nick Maciejewski, Sr., K/P, FDU - Florham
Maciejewski has been consistent for the Devils in the kicking game, converting 12-13 PATs and 2-2 of high field goals giving the senior over 100 points in his career. He as also booted 23 punts for a 39.87 yard average, placing 5 of them inside the 20.
Rookie of the Month
Kamaal Reed., Fr., WR, Wilkes University
Reed has had a nice start to his collegiate career and has helped Wilkes to its first 3-0 start since the 2009 season. Reed is the Colonels leading rusher with 142 yards through three games and has a healthy 5.9 yards-per-carry average. He has scored two touchdowns including one in the fourth quarter of a 24-17 double-overtime victory at Lycoming College to open conference play.
Division III - South
Offensive Player of the Month
James Gillespie, Sr., WR, Widener University
Gillespie leads Middle Atlantic Conference in receptions (34), receiving yards (617), and touchdowns (9) and tops NCAA Division III in total receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He is third nationally in receiving yards per game and 11th nationally in all-purpose yards with 181.25 per game. Gillespie's month is highlighted by a 13 catch for 158 yards and three TD performance at Rowan.
Defensive Player of the Month
Quinn Gaughan, Sr., LB, Carnegie Mellon University
Quinn Gaughan was named PAC Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in the Tartans' 20-13 upset win over No. 12 Washington & Jefferson College. In the win, Gaughan recorded a career-high 17 stops (nine solo), 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks, registered his first career interception and added a fumble recovery in the third quarter. Overall, Gaughan has 37 tackles during the month with two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and one pass breakup.
Special Teams Player of the Month
Brandon Nguyen, So., K, Carnegie Mellon University
Named PAC Special Team Player of the Week and D3football.com Team of the Week following his outing in the Tartans' 20-13 upset win over No. 12 Washington & Jefferson College. In the win, the sophomore was 2-of-2 on field goals including a career-best 46-yarder. His field goals this season are from 33, 45, 41, 46, 29 and 29 yards. The Sophomore kicker is perfect on field goals this season while converting 93 percent of his PATs.
Rookie of the Month
Casey Jaeb, Fr., P, Carnegie Mellon University
Freshman punter Casey Jaeb has played a huge role in the Tartans field position to start his career. The freshman has averaged 38.4 yards per punt on 25 punts while placing eight inside the opponents 20-yard line. He has recorded four punts of 50 yards or more include a career-best 56.
