ECAC Announces 2019 Division III Field Hockey All-ECAC
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2019 Division III Field Hockey All-ECAC Team & major award winners.
Melissa Way from Kean University receives Offensive Player of the Year and Kenzie Drew from Marywood University was named Defensive Player of the Year. DeSales' Catie McGrath won Rookie of the Year, and Leslie LaFronz from Kean takes home Coach of the Year.
Way led the Kean attack all the way to the NCAA Tournament pouring in goals scoring 28 goals in 21 games. The junior chipped in six assists to finish the season with 62 points. The First Team All-NJAC selection was named NFHCA Division III National Offensive Player of the Week once this season when she scored five goals in a week that say the Cougars go 3-0.
Drew was a force in defense for Marywood, leading the 16-4 Pacers to their first ever NCAA Tournament while being named Atlantic East Defensive Player of the Year. The senior captain was clutch when it counted most scoring three game winning goals, two if which came in one-goal games.
McGrath came out firing her rookie year. The MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year recorded 16 goals and three assists this season, highlighted by scoring all three of her team's goals in a 3-2 win over Wilkes. For her efforts the McGrath was named All-MAC Freedom First Team.
Leslie LaFronz finished the season with an 18-3 record and earned the #2 seed in NJAC tournament after being chosen fifth in preseason poll. After starting the season unranked, the team finished the season ranking #9 in the NFHCA Poll. Kean established a new single season winning streak of 17 games while earning a bid to the NCAA tournament for the second time in three years.
