ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Awards
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announces its weekly awards for women's gymnastics for the week of competition ending Feb. 10.
Division I
Gymnast of the Week
Jacey Baldovino - Yale University, So., Atherton, California
Baldovino had an outstanding meet last weekend that saw her score a 9.9. The mark came on the balance beam in which she finished in second. Her routine helped the Bulldogs score a 49.025 for the event, the second highest beam total in school history. Baldovino also had routines on the uneven bars scoring a 9.8 and the vault with a 9.55. Her vault was of significance for the sophomore as it was the first time competing at the event since suffering an injury in 2018.
Specialist of the Week
Claire Haklik - Cornell University, So., Atlanta, Georgia
Haklik debuted a brand-new floor routine at the Big Red Invitational on Saturday. Her new routine was performed to near perfection as she scored a 9.9 in her lone event for the Big Red. Her score helped the team achieve an new season high score of 194.0.
Rookie of the Week
Donna Webster - Cornell University, Fr., Bothell, Washington
Webster put herself in the Cornell record books earning the third highest score on vault in school history. Her vault routine scored a 9.875 which also led the ECAC this week. She also went on to tie her personal best score on the floor with a mark of 9.8.
Coaches Choice
Kate Nelson - Brown University, So., Montara, California
Nelson was unsure if she was going to be able to compete for the Brown Bears this weekend on either the vault or the floor and ended up competing in both. She scored a 9.5 on vault and 9.55 on bars. In her last event, the uneven bars, she would score a 9.85 and setting a new career-high mark.
Division II
Gymnast of the Week
Yoli Nodarse - West Chester University, So., Pompton Plains, New Jersey
Nodarse had a strong meet for the Golden Rams by matching her career-highs in both events she competed in. On balance beam she tied for first with a score of 9.825. In her other event, the floor exercise, she scored a 9.75 which tied her for third.
Specialist of the Week
Rose Fanara - West Chester University, Fr., Fredericksburg, Virginia
Fanara set a new benchmark for her to reach as she progresses in her collegiate career. The freshman scored a 9.85 for her floor routine in West Chester's meet. The score palced her first in the event and was also the highest score of the entire meet.
Rookie of the Week
Noely Macias - Southern Connecticut State University, Fr., Fitchburg, Massachusetts
Macias had a memorable meet with a win on the balance beam, her first time competing in the event. The freshman scored a 9.725 as she competed against Brown University and Rhode Island College. The score was also the highest mark on the event for any Owl this year. She followed up her performance with a 9.6 on the uneven bars and a 9.625 floor routine. The first time she had competed on the floor all season.
Coaches Choice
Nicole Javinett - University of Bridgeport, So., Marlboro, New York
Javinett competed for the first time for the Purple Knights as she had recovered from an injury she suffered last year. She participated in just one event, the balance beam, in which the squad really needed her score. The Purple Knights suffered a fall early in the lineup and Javinett debut on the event scoring a 9.75 is just what the team needed. He scored helped the team score a 48.7 on the event, the highest total of the beam this season.
