ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Awards
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announces its weekly awards for women's gymnastics for the week of competition ending Feb. 17.
Division I
Gymnast of the Week
Caroline Caponi - The College of William & Mary, Jr., Brookfield, Wisconsin
Caponi had an outstanding week in a week that featured two meets for the Tribe. The first meet of the week was the West Chester tri-meet where Caponi would score a 38.15 in the all-around. Her scores to achieve that mark were a vault score of 9.625, uneven bars 9.65, a beam score of 9.1 and a floor score of 9.775. In the second meet of the week for William & Mary, Caponi would set a new career high mark in the all-around with a score of 38.9. She would score a 9.725 on vault a new season best and place second on the uneven bars with a score of 9.7. In her following events she would set a new career high on the beam with a mark of 9.8 and finish off her all-around score with a 9.7 floor routine score.
Specialist of the Week
Valerie Rube - University of Pennsylvania, Sr., Warrington, Pennsylvania
Rube had a career-best day for the Quakers on Senior Day. She would compete in just one event, the vault but set a new career high and help Penn in achieving a win over William & Mary. Rube would score a her career-best 9.775 on vault to highlight her Senior Day.
Rookie of the Week
Ariana Castrence - Temple University, Fr., Waldorf, Maryland
Castrence had a strong meet last weekend as the team competed against Southern Utah. The freshman would finish second in the all-around competition with a score of 39.0. On vault she would score a 9.7, the uneven bars a 9.725, on the balance beam a 9.8 and finished off with a 9.775 floor score. Castrence's scores on the beam and the uneven bars were team-highs.
Coaches Choice
Morgan Hagenbuch - Brown University, Sr., Norwich, New York
Hagenbuch stepped up for the Brown Bears in a big way this weekend. She learned a new vault which is Brown's only 10.0 start value and performed it in competition for the first time this weekend. She would score a 9.575 a new career-high. She also earned a career-high score for her floor routine getting a mark of 9.765.
Division II
Gymnast of the Week
Hannah Stahlbrodt - Southern Connecticut State University, Fr., Cicero, New York
Just two weeks after scoring a 38.65 in the all-around Stahlbrodt would break that mark with a 39.05 in a tri-meet against Springfield College and Ithaca College. On vault she would score a 9.65. When it came to the uneven bars, she would tie a program record score with a 9.85 and also win the event. On the balance beam Stahlbrodt would score a 9.725. Lastly, she would achieve a mark 9.85 on the floor which tied her for first-place.
Specialist of the Week
Tiffany Coleman - Southern Connecticut State University, Sr., Milford, Connecticut
Coleman competed in her specialized event the vault this weekend. She would win the event by setting a new season-best score with a 9.75.
Rookie of the Week
Brashlyn Johnson - West Chester University, Fr., Aynor, South Carolina
West Chester had a two-meet week last week in which Johnson competed in both meets. In the first meet she competed on just the vault scoring a 9.55. On Sunday she would compete on vault again and was a last second replacement for an injured teammate on the floor. Her vault score would improve on Sunday to a 9.625 and her floor score was a 9.575.
Coaches Choice
Jordan Miranda - West Chester University, Jr., Winchester, Massachusetts
Miranda competed on the uneven bars and the balance beam for the Golden Rams two meet week. The first meet of the week she scored a 9.7 as the leadoff for the bars lineup and scored a 9.625 on the beam. Miranda would finish in third and fourth. On Sunday she would score a 9.625 on bars good enough for another third-place finish. On the floor she would up her score to a 9.7 and finished in third.
