ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Awards
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announces its weekly awards for women's gymnastics for the week of competition ending Mar. 10.
Division I
Gymnast of the Week
Jade Buford - Yale University, Jr., Coppell, Texas
Buford helped Yale to earn the fourth highest team score in school history last weekend as the Bulldogs competed against the University of New Hampshire. Buford competed in the all-around setting a season high with a 39.025. On vault Buford had a great stick finish scoring a 9.7 and tying her season high. On the uneven bars she finished with a 9.725 contributing to Yale's 48.925 team score. On beam she scored a 9.775 and finished her day on the floor with her best score of 9.825, a new season-high.
Specialist of the Week
India Anderson - Temple University, Sr., Allendale, South Carolina
Anderson capped of her final meets at McGonigle Hall with two outstanding performances. She anchored the Owls on both Friday and Sunday in her signature event, the floor. The senior won the event both days with an identical score of 9.875. This marked the seventh and eighth time this season that Anderson score a 9.85 or higher on the floor. Her 9.875 was also pivotal in helping the team earn a 49.3 on floor to tie the program record for that event.
Rookie of the Week
Ariana Castrence - Temple University, Fr., Waldorf, Maryland
Casterence had an impressive weekend for the Owls competing in the all-around completion on both Friday and Sunday. On Friday she finished with a 38.95 and improved her all-around score on Sunday with a 39.025. On Friday against Maryland University, Southern Connecticut State and West Chester, she scored a career-best 9.85 on floor to propel her to a third-place finish in the all-around. On Sunday she tied her career-best score on vault with a 9.85 where she would take first place. She would also win the all-around title as well with her 39.025.
Coaches Choice
Rose Hoffman -University of Pennsylvania, So., Bexley, Ohio
Hoffman who did not compete as a freshman played a big role in helping the Quakers set a new team record for overall score with a 195.075. She would participate in just the vault, but she anchored the event scoring a 9.7. This aided the team to score a season high on the event with a 48.675 and push the team towards its new school record team score.
Division II
Gymnast of the Week
Hannah Stahlbrodt - Southern Connecticut State University, Fr., Cicero, New York
Stahlbrodt continues her terrific freshman campaign winning her fourth gymnast of the week honors. She competed in the all-around in what was a double-meet weekend for the Owls. She was impressive hitting 8-for-8 in her routines. On Friday at Temple she posted a all-around score of 38.725 that was highlighted by a team-high 9.8 on bars and 9.825 on floor. She would also score a 9.75 on beam and a 9.35 on vault. On Sunday, Stahlbrdot improved her score and finished second in the all-around with a 38.95. She posted a team high in all four events starting with a personal best 9.725 on vault, 9.75 on floor and a 9.625 on uneven bars. Her best performance came on the balance beam where she scored a 9.85 and set a new school record.
Specialist of the Week
Kelli Tereshko - University Bridgeport, Sr., Madison, Indiana
Tereshko posted her two best floor performances of the season. Floor is a new event for the senior and in a two-meet weekend she scored a 9.675 and a 9.7 She also had back-to-back 9.825 performances on the uneven bars for the Purple Knights.
Rookie of the Week
Jordan Peloquin - Southern Connecticut State University, So., Greenville, Rhode Island
Peloquin, wins her second consecutive rookie of the week after hitting 4-for-4 in her routines. On Friday at Temple she recorded a 9.725 on beam and a 9.7 on floor, the teams second-highest score on both events. She would then increase her score in both events on Sunday earning a 9.8 beam score and 9.825 floor score.
Coaches Choice
Thomara Powell-Brown- University of Bridgeport, Sr., Rocky Hill, Connecticut
Powell-Brown had a great senior weekend having two of her best performances of her career. On Friday night she scored a 9.775 on the uneven bars. She followed that up on Saturday with an even better uneven bars performance and score with a 9.825.
