ECAC Announces DIII Men's Basketball All-Stars and Major Award Winners
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2019 Division III Men's Basketball All-ECAC Team.
Wesley College Guard Brian Cameron was voted Player of the Year while Atlantic East Conference foe Voshon Mack from Cabrini University was awarded Rookie of the Year. John Alesi, head coach at Baruch College, was named Coach of the Year.
Cameron, a junior guard from Newark, DE could not be stopped by opposing defenses this season. The Atlantic East Player of the Year poured in 26.6 points per game, good for fourth in all of Division III, on his march to setting the Wesley program record for points in a season with 718. Cameron was a consistent threat to score; hitting double figures in all but one game and registered 20-plus points in 23 of Wesley's 27 games. He made 44 percent of his three-point attempts and set a program record in free-throws-made with 147. The junior rounded out the box score by chipping in 6.7 rebounds per game. Cameron was named First Team All-Atlantic East, ECAC Player of the Month twice, Atlantic East Player of the Week five times, and D3hoops.com National Team of the Week four times.
Mack, a freshman forward from Pennsauken, NJ dominated the boards for the Cavaliers as he led the Atlantic East in rebounds per game with 8.2. Starting 24 of Cabrini's 26 games, Mack was second on the team in scoring with 15.8 points per game and was efficient, leading the conference in field goal percentage at .609. The Atlantic East Rookie of the Year recorded eight double-doubles this season, as well as eight games with 20 points or more. Mack was named the Atlantic East Player of the Week once and All-Atlantic East Second Team.
Coach John Alesi led the Bearcats to the CUNYAC Championship and regular season title this season and has now led the Bearcats to the postseason for the sixth time in his seven years at the helm. Alesi's team won with stifling defense as the Bearcats ranking sixth in field goal percentage (38.6) and sixth in scoring defense (62.6) in Division III. Within the CUNYAC, they were first in blocked shots per game (4.3), field-goal percentage defense (38.6), rebound margin (5.3), scoring defense (62.6), total rebounds per game (41.8) and second in turnovers forced per game (17.75). Alesi was named CUNYAC Coach of the Year.
