ECAC Announces Men's Gymnastics Weekly Awards
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announces its final weekly awards for the 2019 Men’s Gymnastics season.
Gymnast of the Week
Ryan McVay – United States Naval Academy, So., Roseville, California
McVay came in first place in the varsity division of the USAG Collegiate Championships last Friday. He won with a career-high score in the all-around competition with a 78.75. He ranked in the top-10 out of over 50 plus athletes in rings, parallel bars and high bar. On rings McVay would score a 13.0 and on the high bar a 12.1. On Friday he placed third in the parallel bars with a score of 13.5 and came in eight in the event on Saturdays finals with a 12.05. His other scores to round out his all-around career-high mark came with a 13.45 score on vault, 12.2 on pommel horse and a floor routine score of 13.5. The Sophomore player a key role in Navy winning the USAG Championship for the first time since 2008.
Specialist of the Week
Lucas Beltran – United States Naval Academy, Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas
Beltran continued his outstanding Junior season helping Navy win the USAG Championship and qualifying himself for event finals on Saturday. On vault Beltran would score a 14.75 on Friday, the top score amongst the 57 competitors. He would score a 13.8 on floor to also qualify for the event final on Saturday. In the finals he would win the floor exercise event final with a score of 14.05. He would place third on vault with a mark of 14.45.
Rookie of the Week
Andrew Lyubovsky – The College of William & Mary, Fr., Fairfax, Virginia
Lyubovsky qualified for two event finals at the USAG National Championship. On Friday he scored a 13.85 on vault, 14.15 on high bar, 11.9 on floor and a 13.4 on parallel bars. His high bar score was the top score in preliminary’s and his parallel bars was the sixth best score. Both marks sent him to the finals on Saturday. On Saturday he would finish in fourth on the high bar with a score of 11.9 and claim bronze on the parallel bars with a score of 13.35.
