ECAC Announces Women's Gymnastics Weekly Awards

DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announces its weekly awards for Women's Gymnastics for the week of competition ending Feb. 3rd.

Gymnast of the Week
Delaney Garin – Temple University, Jr., Fairfax, VA

Delaney Garin was instrumental in helping Temple score a season-high 195.000 in Temple’s win in its Ken Anderson Invitational on Friday night. The junior captain tied her career-high on bars with a 9.775 and posted a 9.675 on floor. Garin really shined on beam, where she earned a career-best 9.9 and the event title for her superb routine. She anchored the Owls’ beam lineup that posted the second-highest score in program history (49.1) and she is just one of six Temple gymnasts to ever score a 9.9 or higher on the event.

Specialist of the Week
Emma Hansen – Brown University, Jr., Cincinnati, OH

Emma earned a CAREER-HIGH 9.825 on beam, leading the team to a season-high on that event. In addition, she earned a SEASON-HIGH 9.725 on bars in the second spot.

Rookie of the Week
McCaleigh Marr – Penn, Fr., Newtown Square, PA
 
Freshman, McCaleigh Marr's collegiate debut was a spectacular one. She dominated the uneven bars winning the event with a 9.825 (the highest score of the day on all events). McCaleigh also won the balance beam with a 9.8. Her scores helped Penn win the meet with a 192.4 against Ivy rival, Cornell.

Coaches Choice
Faith Leary – Temple University, Jr., Cincinnati, OH

Faith Leary was exceptional in Temple’s Ken Anderson Invitational win over Bridgeport and Ursinus. The junior competed on vault for the first time in Cherry and White on Friday night and was nothing short of spectacular. Leary earned a share of the event title, scoring a 9.85. She also dazzled on floor for the Owls, scoring a 9.875 to take first in the event. Leary’s floor mark is the highest on the team this season and her vault score is tied for the top spot. floor exercise with a 9.75.

Gymnast of the Week
Maya Reimers – University of Bridgeport, Sr., NY, NY

In the Knights tri-meet weekend, Reimers went three for three on all three of her events. She averaged about a 9.7 on vault for the Knights, about a 9.75 average on beam for the weekend and an impressive 9.9 or better performance on all three days on floor. She also won the floor title on Saturday at the Don Tonry Invitational. Maya tied her personal best score of a 9.925 in the final meet of the weekend.

Specialist of the Week
Kathryn Doran – University of Bridgeport, Jr., Oakille, Ontario, Canada

In the three meet weekend, Junior Kat Doran performance was very impressive as she continued to raise her score from meet to meet on bars. Starting at a 9.725 in meet one, to a 9.825 on the Second day, to win the uneven bar title at the Don Tonry Invitational. Doran held steady at a 9.825 on the third day to win the event once again. She also came back into the beam lineup for the Knights with an impressive 9.775 on Sunday.

Rookie of the Week
Bianca Leon – Southern Connecticut State University, Fr., Miami, FL

Against Bridgeport and Brown on Sunday, Owls freshman Bianca Leon (Miami, Fla.) followed Jordan Peloquin's record-breaking performance on the beam with one of her own when she posted a 9.900 in just her second competition of her career. The record broke the program record of 9.85 that was tied last season by two Southern athletes. She then followed with an impressive 9.800 on the bars, which was good for a tie of second place in the event behind the leader at 9.825. On Saturday in a tri-meet against Yale and Bridgeport, Leon led the Owls on the bars with a second-place finish after posting a 9.800. She was also the Owls' top finisher on the beam with a 9.650 for sixth place.

Coaches Choice
Brashlyn Johnson – West Chester University, So., Aynor, SC

Brashlyn tore her ACL during the ECAC championships last year. She has been back on vault all season scoring a 9.375 this meet and made her floor debut at home this weekend scoring 9.575.
