ECAC Announces Women’s Track and Field Athletes of the Month for January

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its Women’s Track and Field Athletes of the Month for January.
 
Division II
Track Athlete of the Month
Caroline Lewis – West Chester University, Jr

Lewis received Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week once this January. She is the top performer in the long jump in the PSAC and is third in the nation after posting a jump of 5.88 meters at the Kutztown Golden Bear College Invitational. Other performances included a 60-hurdles time of 8.76 seconds and a 200-meter time of 25.20 seconds.

Field Athlete of the Month
Krystahl Gordon - Lincoln University, Jr.

Gordon continues to be the Lions most consistent performer this season, with three top five finishes in the jumps. She earned CIAA Field Athlete of the Week following her performance at the Spartan invitational where she posted a long jump of 5.37 meters.  Gordon also ran a leg on LU's 4x400 meter relay team that took first place at the Collegeville Classic. Gordon also ran in the 200-meter dash for the first time in her career, placing 7th overall with a time of 27.93.
 
Rookie of the Month
Indira Rauf – Salem University, Fr

Indira Rauf posted a first-place finish in the 55-meter at the Marietta Open and a first-place finish in the 200-meters at the Pioneer Open with a time of 26.77 seconds. Rauf also finished first in the long jump at both meets.
 
Division III – North
Track Athlete of the Month
Madison Perez – RPI, So
 
Perez repeats as athlete of the month. The sophomore again posted a victory in the 800 at the Utica College Invitational with a time of 2:23.12. At the same event she ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 that finished with a time of 4:24.00. At Harvard’s Crimson Elite she placed first amongst DIII runners in the 400-meter with a time of 1:01.10

Field Athlete of the Month
Jacy Scharlow – RPI, So
 
Scharlow was named Liberty League Field Performer of the Week once in January after she posted a trio of first places jumps. At the Utica College Invitational, she won the high jump with a height of 1.59 meters. At the Middlebury Invitational, she won with a height of 1.65 meters. At Harvard’s Crimson Elite she placed first in a field of 15 that included only two DIII athletes with a height of 1.70 meters.
 
Rookie of the Month
Sheena Wolliston – Union College, So.
 
Wolliston did not finish lower than 10th in any of her 13 individual races during the month of January. She set a new school record with her time of 8.30 seconds in the 60-meter dash at Middlebury. She currently has Union's top 60, 200 and 400-meter times of the season.
 
Division III – South
Track Athlete of the Month
Erin Ward – Westminster College, Jr.
 
Ward was named Presidents' Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week one time and was in the mood for breaking records as she broke the school-record in the 800-meter on three separate occasions this past month. She ran a 2:18.20 the YSU College Invitational, then a 2:17.39 at the Spire Midwest Open and finally a 2:16.87 at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational.

Division III – Metro
Track Athlete of the Month
Sayra Raya – USMMA, Fr
 
Raya earned her second ECAC qualifying mark of the season when she finished the 5000-meter run in 18:54.23 at the NYC DIII Invitational. She scored four points for the team with her fifth-place finish in the event. The freshman was also the last leg of the Mariners' distance medley relay team that scored three points with a sixth-place finish in 13:30.02. Earlier in the month, she had the Mariner runners' best finish, coming in ninth in the mile run with a time of 5:33.30.
 
Field Athlete of the Month
Jessica McRae – Stockton University, Sr.
 
McRae was the NJAC Field Athlete of the Week on January 20 as she won two events at TCNJ in the triple jump and long jump. The long jump win was the first of her career. Her jump of 11.57m at the Gotham Cup was the best of all DIII competitors in the meet and was one centimeter off of her school record.
 
Rookie of the Month
Brigid Sullivan – Manhattanville University, So.
 
Sullivan set a Manhattanville all-time record in her debut track and field performance with the Valiants. In the 800-meter at the NYC DIII Invitational she placed 33rd out of 77 runners and clinched a time of 2:33.49. She beat the previous record that was set in 2016 by one second.

The ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) is an eighty-two-year-old organization with well over 200 member schools across all three NCAA Divisions - I, II and III. The ECAC exists to enhance the experience of student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics and provides great value for universities and colleges by sponsoring championships, leagues, bowl games, tournaments and other competitions throughout the Northeast. The ECAC's esports platform is growing and now totals more than sixty colleges and universities and is expanding the geographic footprint for the conference nationally.
