ECAC Announces Men’s Basketball Players of the Month for January

DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced the Men’s Basketball Players of the Month for January 2022.

Division III – North
Player of the Month
Patrick Mahoney, Sr., Forward, RPI

Mahoney led his team to a 6-1 record in January, leading his team in scoring and second in rebounding. He reached double-digit scoring in each game with high of 23 points vs. Vassar.

Rookie of the Month
Aiden Macaulay, Fr, Guard, St. Lawrence University

Macaulay started six of 11 games for St. Lawrence in what proved to be a packed January schedule. He averaged 6.5 points per gam and 2 rebounds per game during the month, adding in 12 assists and 10 steals.

Division III – South
Player of the Month
Jalen Vaughns, So, Forward/Guard, Neumann University

Vaughns was a two-time Atlantic East Player of the Week in January. He averaged a double-double with 22.8 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game.

Rookie of the Month
PJ Charles, Fr, Center, Penn State – Altoona

Charles averaged 12.0 points per game and 5.7 rebounds. The 6-5 freshman scored double-digit points in six of the seven games he played.

Division III – Metro
Player of the Month
Bobby Hawkinson, Sr, Forward, NYU

Hawkinson got some time in the sun in January after he hit a buzzer-beating, game-winning three-pointer to defeat Misericordia and was featured on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays. He recorded a double-double in six of his seven January outings including a career-high 32 points at Misericordia and matched it at Emory. He matched his career high with 22 rebounds at Rochester.

Rookie of the Month
Alex Tabada, Fr, Forward, St. Joseph’s College (L.I)

Tabada was Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week twice in January and three times this season. He had three double-doubles in seven January games. He scored a season-high 22 points three times and went for 22 points and 11 rebounds in a 62-40 win over USMMA.
