Allegheny Claims 2023 ECAC Division III Volleyball Crown
WAYNE, N.J. – Allegheny College captured the 2023 ECAC Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship this afternoon with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-14) over host William Paterson University. With the win, the Gators finish the 2023 season at 24-9 while the Pioneers close out the campaign at 26-7.
Dagney Javes was named the 2023 ECAC Most Valuable Player for the tournament. She finished with 25 kills, an ace, a solo block, and a block assist for two matches.
Trailing 6-3 in the opening set, the Gators went on a 6-0 run to take a 9-6 lead. Both teams then found themselves tied at nine before Allegheny retook the lead flowing a 3-0 run to go up, 12-9. Each team traded points to find themselves knotted again but this time at 19. The Gators grabbed a 23-19 lead, but the Pioneers scored the next four points to tie things at 23. Allegheny was able to take advantage of two errors by the Pioneers to take the set, 25-23.
The Gators jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the second set before pushing its lead to, 14-3. William Paterson attempted to chip away at the Gators’ lead but it wasn’t enough as Allegheny went on to win 25-16 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Allegheny looking to close out the match in set three, but the Pioneers had other plans as each team either had one-point lead or was tied. William Paterson took advantage of two Gator errors to go up, 10-8, but both teams found themselves tied at 11 until the Gators went on a 5-0 run to go up, 16-11. The Pioneers stopped the run thanks to a Gator service error, but then a 7-0 run by Allegheny broke things open and put the Gators in front, 23-12. Allegheny allowed just two more points as it went on to win 25-14 in set three.
Angelee Bawek notched 15 kills while registering a .367 hitting percentage and tallying eight digs for Allegheny. Teammate Javes tallied 11 kills in the match.
Izzy Gray led the Gators in assists with 25 while Jacy Diaz finished with team-highs in aces with six and digs with 29.
