Howard and Providence Claim ECAC and IC4A Indoor Track and Field Titles

BOSTON, Mass. – The Howard University women’s indoor track and field team claimed this year’s ECAC crown of the 46th running of the ECAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Providence College men’s indoor track and field team captured the IC4A title of the 101st running of the IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championship.

The Howard women registered 92 points in the meet with James Madison recording 63 points to finish in second while Bucknell came in third tallying 44.5 points.

The Providence men posted 74 points while Rhode Island recorded 56.5 points to finish in second. Howard’s men’s team rounded out the top three with 40 points.

The IC4A Most Outstanding Performer of the meet was Patrick Thygesen from Providence who won the 3,000-meter (7:54.51) beating Northeastern’s Alexander Korczunski time of 8:03.48 who won the event last year.

The ECAC Most Outstanding Performer of the meet was Dominique Biron from Northeastern for the second year in a row. She broke a 28-year-old record in the Pentathlon on Saturday when she tallied 4,266 points.

Howard’s women’s team captured three first-place finishes between individual and relay events the most of any team over the course of the three days.

Darci Khan of Howard finished first in the 60-meter hurdles (8.22) and in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.47. Teammate Kaya-Rae Dunbar won the 200-meter dash (23.57) and took second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.42).

Howard finished first in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 3:36.03.

Providence had two individual champions in the men’s competition. Zane Powell took first in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:23.15 while Thygesen won the 3,000-meter run. Providence took four of the top five spots (first, second, third, and fifth) in the 3,000-meter run.
