McDaniel, Goucher Win ECAC Division III Track and Field Titles
The ECAC crowned its champions for the Division III Track and Field Championships on Friday after a full day of competition. Winning the men’s championship was McDaniel while Goucher repeated as women’s champions.
McDaniel won the men’s event with 133 team points, edging Hood by 8 points, who finished with 125 points.
Goucher ran away with the women’s event, totaling 170 team points after the day’s competition. Mount Saint Mary was the next closest team with 108 points.
Winning the Male Performer of the Meet for a second straight year was Gallaudet’s Eric Gregory. Gregory finished no worse than second in his five events, his lone silver coming in the 4x100m relay. The junior won the 100m, 200m, and 400m before teaming up to win the 4x400m relay. In total, Gregory produced 48 points.
The Female Performer of the Meet was Gallaudet’s Hannah Wetzel. Wetzel placed in both track and field events, winning the 200m dash and finishing third in the 4x100m relay. She also won the long jump and high jump events before wrapping-up her championship performance with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump.
Gregory was the only student-athlete to win multiple track events, but Chett Brunner of McDaniel won a pair of field events as the only multi-winner in field. Brunner took first in Discus and Shot Put with distances of 39.26m and 14.31m, respectively.
While Wetzel was impressive across the board, there were a few student-athletes to win multiple events in the women’s championship.
Bailey Mullen won both distance events, taking the 5000m in 21:05.12 and the 10000m in 39:34.67.
Taileen Zechman took first in the Hammer Throw (41.25m) and the Javelin (30.63m), while Victoria Kadiri won the 100m Hurdles (15.20 seconds) and the Triple Jump (12.44m) to be the only women’s student-athlete other than Wetzel to win track and field events in the championship.
