Towson And Navy Claim ECAC/IC4A Track And Field Titles

FAIRFAX, Va. – After the final day of competition at the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Track and Field Championships, two teams lifted the trophy and took home the title of champions. Towson won the 46
th ECAC Championship on the women’s side while Navy won the 146
th IC4A Championship on the men’s side.
Towson registered 89.5 points in the win while Hampton (74 points) and William & Mary (55 points) were in the top three on the women’s side.
Navy accounted for 154.5 points in the win while Army West Point (89 points) and George Mason (70.5 points) rounded out the top three on the men’s side.
For the meet, Josh Boamah (Navy) was named the men’s MOP while Cristal Cuervo (Towson) was named the women’s MOP.
The final day started with the 4x100m relay and it did not disappoint. On the men’s side, Coppin State registered the victory in 40.37. Navy claimed the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:06.87 while St. Joseph’s (Pa.) notched a winning time of 7:24.86 in the 4x800m relay.
Coppin State continued its solid afternoon as Solomon Hammond claimed the 100m title in 10.36.
In the 110m hurdles, Navy’s Brahmir Vick crossed the line in 13.85 for the win. Teammate Nathan Kent accounted for a victory in the 400m with a time of 46.38. The 400m hurdles champion was Michael Arnold (UMBC) in a time of 52.27.
Coppin State’s Carl Drakes crossed the line in a winning time of 21.00 in the 200m, narrowly edging the competition.
In the remaining two field events of the competition, St. Francis (N.Y.) standout Malachi Aiken won the triple jump with a mark of 15.30m. Iosif Papa of UMBC claimed the discus title with an effort of 53.73m.
On the women’s side, VCU started the final day of competition in the 4x100m with a mark of 45.27. William & Mary’s squad won the 4x400m relay in 3:36.94 while Richmond picked up the 4x800m title after finishing in 8:40.08.
VCU’s Lauryn Taylor won the 100m after crossing the line in 11.60. Teammate Symone Foster notched a winning time of 13.76 in the 100m hurdles.
Caitlyn Bobb’s effort of 53.44 in the 400m allowed UMBC to garner 10 points. Marie Frederique-Poulin gave Delaware its first champion at the meet after taking home the title in the 400m hurdles in 59.07.
Cristal Cuervo accounted for a first-place finish in the 200m. The Towson student-athlete posted a time of 23.29.
In the field events, Manie Mevo of Towson won the triple jump with an effort of 12.84m while teammate Fatimah Owens snagged the discus title with a mark of 50.72m.
