Hartford Defends ECAC Women's Soccer Title

HARTFORD, Conn. - The No. 1 University of Hartford women’s soccer defended its 2023 title with a 6-0 win over No. 2 Springfield College this afternoon to win the 2024 ECAC Division III Women’s Soccer crown. The Hawks finished the 2024 season with a 16-3-2 mark while Springfield ends the year at 10-6-4.

The Hawks controlled most of the first half as it peppered nine shots to the Prides one in the first 20 minutes. Hartford found the back of the net at 23:48 when Christina Stone was fed a pass by Lindsey Metcalfe to make it, 1-0. Ten minutes later the Hawks made it 2-0 when Mayson scored. Both Imani Jenkins and Stone tallied assists on the play. The Hartford offense did not ease up in the half when Jenkins got in on the scoring with an unassisted goal at 39:17 to put the Hawks in 3-0 going into halftime.

Hartford outshot Springfield 16 to 3 in the first half. Nine of the 16 shots for the Hawks were on net.

With all of the momentum on the Hawks' side, they did not let up to start the second half.  Katheleen Bush scored in the 71st minute off a pass from Jenkins to make it, 4-0. Little over 15th minutes later Harford added its fifth goal of the game when Morgan Egan made it, 5-0. Jenkins and May Cervone picked up a pair of assists on the play.  Hartford added one more goal for the half and match when Juliana Chiarella converted a penalty kick in the 87th minute it 6-0 Hawks lead. The Hawks’ defense continued to be perfect for the half as it didn’t allow a single shot as it closed out the contest.

Hartford allowed a total of three shots (two on goal) in the first half only while tallying 29 shots (16 on net) for the match.

Hartford’s Jenkins finished the contest with a match-high eight shots with six on goal while tallying three assists and a goal. Teammates Cervone and Stone combined for seven shots with five on goal, two assists, and a goal.

Mia Salmon and Peyton Knott each finished with a shot (both on goal for Springfield while goalie Taryne Ryan tallied 10 saves for the Pride.
