Diving concludes, meet records fall on Day Two in New York

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The 2024 ECAC Winter Championship continued on Saturday, with the Monmouth women and the Iona men carrying leads into the final day of competition. The women’s standings feature Monmouth (1001.5 points) holding a slim lead over Siena (996) and Iona (944), while Iona (1481.5 points) expanded their lead on the men’s side to nearly 450 points.
 
Monmouth opened the day with a thrilling win in the women’s 200 medley relay, as the team of Jenna Pryne, Emilie Mosner, Jensen Ritter and Edie Ancel turned in a championship time of 1:44.54. Iona and Long Island turned in second and third respectively, doing so with times of 1:44.58 and 1:44.67 in the tightest race of the weekend.
 
The Iona men followed with their first victory of the day, with Michael Faughnan, Matthew Loftus, Brian Baldwin and Nick Patino setting a new meet record with a time of 1:29.02.
 
LIU teammates Laura Marin (4:25.86) and Lara Wielkiewicz (4:30.97) produced a 1-2 finish in the women’s 400 IM before Saint Peters sophomore Juan Nunez (4:00.51) came away with a conference crown in the same event for the men.
 
Hope Ivanovich, a sophomore from Siena, took home the women’s 100 fly title with a time of 55:02, narrowly holding off LIU’s Allie Bashor (55.42). Kieran Egan (48.49) then took first in the men’s 100 fly, giving Iona their second win of Day Two.
 
Franny Baber of Stony Brook (1:51.95) hauled in first place in the women’s 200 free, followed by Faughnan setting a meet record in the men’s race with a mark of 1:35.12.
 
Mosner (1:03.14), a Monmouth freshman, continued an impressive weekend by closing out the 100 yard breast in first place. Loftus then came up big for Iona, as his championship time of 55.50 was enough to narrowly hold off Monmouth’s Joe Brennan (55.93) in the men’s competition.
 
Iona freshman Raegan O’Brien gave the Gaels an event win in the women’s 100 back, turning in a mark of 56.84 in her first collegiate championship event. Another meet record fell in the men’s race, with Faughnan (47.28) ending up in first place for the third time on the day.
 
Stony Brook senior Sara DiStefano (231.10) took first in the women’s 3-meter dive, paving the way for her to earn Women’s Diver of the Meet honors after winning the 1-meter dive on Friday evening. Dylan Ricco, a junior from Iona, scored a 227.45 in the men’s 1-meter dive, and he picked up Men’s Diver of the Meet after a similar sweep.
 
Stony Brook’s Jan Pisano and Iona’s Maureen Arnold were named the Women’s and Men’s Dive Coach of the Meet respectively.
 
O’Brien, Kate Kennedy, Mary Grace Waring and Megan Josephs (7:42.27) teamed up for a win in the women’s 800 free relay to help Iona stay in the hunt. The Iona men closed out the day with another win, with Egan, Harry Platt, Nate Wales and Faughnan shattering the meet record with a new best of 6:38.83.
