Navy, Army in lead after Day One of IC4A/ECAC Championships
FAIRFAX, Va. – The first day of the 2024 IC4A/ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships wrapped up on Friday evening, with Navy leading the men’s side and the women of Army carrying a lead into Sunday’s finale. The meet is being hosted on the campus of George Mason University in northern Virginia.
Manhattan junior Robert Decker took first in the men’s hammer throw, the lone event that took place on Friday, with a winning distance of 66.91m (219’ 6”). The Jaspers took both first and second in the women’s event to open Saturday’s action, as senior Kristin Stickdorn (60.07m/197’ 1”) and sophomore Mary Gill (54.78m/179’ 8”) led the pack.
Salif Mane (7.37m/24’ 2¼”) of FDU took home the conference crown in the men’s long jump, with Richmond teammates Alicia Dawson (6.16m/20’ 2½”) and Molly Wise (5.97m/19’ 7”) turning in a 1-2 finish on the women’s side. Midshipmen teammates Joshua Boamah (18.34m/60’ 2”) and Collin Greene (17.25m/56’ 7¼”) finished atop the podium in the men’s shot put, and Duquesne’s Madelyn Moretti (15.53m/50’ 11½”) produced a championship distance and a new personal best on the women’s side.
Sarah Lavery gave Penn a first-place finish in the women’s high jump with a mark of 1.73m (5’ 8”), with Matthew Santy of Rhode Island (2.09m/6’ 10¼”) grabbing the men’s crown.
Scott Toney’s height of 5.54m (18’ 2”) in the men’s pole vault was good enough for a meet record, a facility record, a PR, and a conference title, and he now ranks ninth in the country individually. Laura Reigle of Lehigh followed with the women’s event win, clearing 4.06m (13’ 3¾”) on her second attempt.
Rhode Island senior Lucas Frost (64.23m/210’ 8”) too home the conference title in the men’s javelin, and Brooke Stratman of Army earned first in the women’s event, doing so with an effort of 49.24m (161’ 6”) on her fourth throw.
The men’s 1500 saw Navy’s Luke Nester (3:48.77) hold off a pair of Fordham runners, while Mikayla Cheney (4:30.27) of Army turned in exciting finish just ahead of Lehigh’s Abby Klebe (4:30.92) to end a strong women’s race. Joseph Queen (1:48.75) of George Mason came away with a PR and first place in the men’s 800, and Duquesne junior Hannah Seitzinger followed with a new facility record time of 2:04.92.
Cooper Michaud, a sophomore from American, took first place in the men’s 3K with a PR time of 8:23.24, while Lehigh’s Christina Yakaboski 9:43.30 dominated to take home the women’s crown. Navy closed out the men’s steeple with three of the top five individuals, highlighted by Benjamin Countiss’ winning performance of 9:02.41. Duquesne junior Haley Hamilton won the women’s race by nearly ten full seconds, finishing in 10:25.41.
Navy again produced the top two runners in the men’s 5K, with Alexander Kirkland (13:52.11) setting a new PR to claim the crown and Justin Mumford (14:12.67) finding himself in second place. Charlotte Rickman of Army ran away with the men’s race, as her time of 16:44.45 was nearly 30 seconds ahead of second.
Richmond’s Stuart Terrill (29:26.63) turned in a facility record and a first-place finish in the men’s 10K, and Albany sophomore Amanda Chambers (34:18.13) closed out the day with a facility record of her own to win the women’s race.
