Diving concludes, leads expand heading into final day of Winter Championships

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The 2025 ECAC Swimming and Diving Winter Championships continued on Saturday, with the Stony Brook women and the men of Iona both building on their leads from Friday. Heading into the final day of competition, Stony Brook leads by more than 150, while Iona's men are 94 points ahead of NJIT.
 
Ryleigh Mahoney (264.60) once again highlighted a Sacred Heart trio at the top of the women's three-meter dive leaderboard, marking back-to-back huge performances from the Seawolves. Juan Urrea Vargas (255.15) of Bridgeport ended up as the men's champion in the one-meter dive, more than 30 points ahead of second place.
 
The Women's Diving Coach of the Meet was Adam Vance of Sacred Heart, who swept the top three places in the one-meter dive on Friday before repeating on the high boards on Saturday. On the men's side, Iona's Maureen Arnold took home the award after the Gaels collected the top two individuals on Friday to go with Dylan Riccio's second-place finish on Saturday. Dylan Riccio was named Diver of the Meet.
 
Mount Saint Mary's opened Saturday's swim events with a win in the women's 200 medley relay, as Hanna Aggen, Christine Lazari, Theodora Kanellopoulou and Eve Phillips combined for a winning time of 1:43.57. The Iona squad of Kieran Egan, Max Buchen, Noah Giunta and Nick Patino followed with a victory on the men's side, breaking the meet record, set just last year, behind a mark of 1:28.49.
 
Carmen Del Aguila Martin of Mount Saint Mary's picked up her second event crown in as many days, claiming the 400 IM with a finals time of 4:24.51, more than five full seconds ahead of second place. Felician sophomore Malik Biad (3:57.00) came away with the men's 400 IM title, giving the Falcons their first event win of the weekend.
 
In the women's 100 fly, Stony Brook teammates Michelle Vu (56.23) and Pelagia Chazov (57.11) provided the Seawolves with a 1-2 finish, with Siena's Hope Ivanovich (57.31) rounding out the top three. Junior Parker Koenig picked up a win in the men's 100 fly, breaking the meet record behind a time of 47.94.
 
Stony Brook's Francesca Baber took home the women's 200 free, doing so with a finals time of 1:53.31, narrowly holding off Siena's Gaylynn Kirn (1:53.33), Felician's Amelia Mayers (1:53.39) and teammate Gaylynn Kirn (1:53.39). The men's 200 free was also a tight race, with Long Island freshman Mario Poulsen (1:38.64) narrowly grabbing the individual title ahead of Iona's Harry Platt (1.38.77) and Bridgeport's Sultanbek Azat (1:38.82).
 
Lazari made her second trip of the day to the top of the podium after recording a first-place time of 1:02.83 in the women's 100 breast, and LIU junior Polat Tasbasi followed with a record-breaking mark of 53.24 on the men's side. Max Bunchen (53.63, 2nd) of Iona and Jurica Dragun (54.06, 3rd) of Bridgeport also broke the previous meet record of 54:48, set back in 2023.
 
The women's 100 back saw Raegan O'Brien of Iona record a finals time of 55.64 to take home the individual crown, while Egan's 48.44 in the finals was good enough to give the Gaels a sweep of the event.
 
Stony Brook held on in the women's 800 free relay, as Francesca Baber, Avari Wischhof, Alanna Depinto and Carson Kien teamed up for a first-place time of 7:39.97, just edging out Mount Saint Mary's. The final event of the day provided some firepower, as LIU's group of Leandre Renault, Finn Drysdale, Emilio Garcia and Mario Poulsen set a new meet record time of 6:38.13 to win the men's 800 free relay.
