Rams, Bears take home Indoor Track and Field Titles

BOSTON – The ECAC/IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships wrapped up on Saturday afternoon, with the men of Rhode Island and the women of Brown taking home the team titles. For the men, the Rams finished with 146 total points, nearly 70 points ahead of second place, while the Bears (136.5) were able to hold off host Boston University (127.5) on the women’s side.
 
The Rams have now won three straight IC4A men’s titles, while the Bears have earned the first ECAC title in program history.
 
The final four field events of the weekend kicked off the final day of the meet, with Rhode Island senior Joachim Ennoo landing atop the podium in the men’s triple jump, doing so with a mark of 15.71m (51’ 6 ½”). The women’s triple jump followed, as BU’s Peace Omonzane finished in first at 13.24m (43’ 5 ¼”), good enough for 13th on the national leaderboard.
 
BU dominated the women’s shot put, as the trio of Ellie Roan (14.32m/46’ 11 ¾”), Kiana Lino (13.64m/44’ 9”) and Uchenna Uba (13.28m/43’ 7”) gave the Terriers the top three spots. Ryker Brown of Maine picked up the men’s crown behind a throw of 16.76m (55’), holding off a strong effort from Rhode Island’s Theo Puterbaugh (16.69m/54’ 9 ¼”).  
 
Miles Lipka closed out the heptathlon with wins in the 60m hurdles (8.61) and the 1000m (2:47.51) on Sunday, while adding a third place finish the pole vault (4.48m/14’ 8 ¼”) to pick up the individual crown. Combined with Saturday’s results, he totaled 5,235 total points, with Brown’s Gabriel Thai (5,041) finishing in second.  
 
On the track, the women’s mile was the first event of the morning, as Brown senior Nimrit Ahuja (4:45.80) was the top finisher in a race that featured less than two full seconds between first and third place. The men’s mile featured a photo finish, as Michael Glavin (4:07.17) of St. Joseph’s came in less than half a second ahead of BU sophomore Daniel Hruska (4:07.44.)
 
Ingibjorg Sigurdardottir (1:13.66) of UMass Amherst picked up the individual crown in the women’s 500, holding off JMU freshman MyKenzie Britton (1:14.44). The men’s race proved to be a tight one, with Cashieve Blair of St. Peter’s (1:03.67) leading a pack of a top four that was separated by a fifth of a second.
 
JMU sophomore Kam’Dyn Thomas won the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.65, with Brown’s Simone Dunbar (8.66) and Fordhman’s Kylie Ritz (8.67) rounding out the top three. The men’s event was dominated by freshmen, led by Lucas Andrade (7.94) of Rhode Island.
 
St. Joseph’s teammates Quinn O’Brien (2:47.90) and Majken Lutzen (2:47.96) produced a 1-2 finish in the women’s 1000m, while Brown landed four of the top eight individuals. Aiden Coles (2:22.54) of Iona hauled in the men’s crown, doing so by nearly three full seconds.
 
Northeastern picked up their first event win of the day with Savannah Blair’s time of 23.88 to claim the women’s 200, while Coppin State seniors Solomon Hammond (21.18) and Cole Schlotterbeck (21.25) led the way in the men’s race.
 
In the women’s 4000m distance medley relay, BU’s team of Olivia Duca, Lily Borin, Adrienne Buettner-Cable and Sammy Seabury combined for a team time of 11:33.33 to hold off Brown in a tightly-contested finish. UMass Amherst (9:49.78) picked up the men’s title, with Kialis Ciatto, Michael Sanchez, Colin Kirn and Collin Catherwood representing the Minutemen.
 
The men’s 4x800 relay saw the St. Joseph’s squad of Chris Manzo, Elijah Smith, Regent Walden and Alex Wockenfuss snag the event crown, doing so with a mark of 7:33.35.  
 
BU’s 4x800 relay team of Leonni Griffin, Caroline Collins, Samantha Lascelles and Olivia Dodds set a new facility and meet record with a time of 8:38.32, and the group was named as the Female Performers of the Meet for their efforts. The Male Performer of the Meet was Matthew Santy of Rhode Island, who won both the high jump and long jump on Saturday afternoon.
 
Brown’s women’s 4x400 relay team consisted of Sydney Ruckett, Kareema McKenzie, Mia Reaugh and Kate Scanlan, and the quarter set a new season-best time of 3:44.17 to win the event. In the final event of the weekend, St. Joseph’s teammates Darren Cammauf, Luke Noss, Alex Garcia and Ben Henry combined for a mark of 3:12.10 to win on the men’s side.
