DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2015 Division III Metro Men’s Soccer All-Star Team, as voted on by representatives from the region’s member institutions.
Mike Ryan from Rutgers University Camden earned Offensive Player of the Year honors, while Clevon McPherson of Stockton University garnered Defensive Player of the Year. The College of State Island claimed a pair of major awards, with midfielder Brayan Evo claiming the 2015 Rookie of the Year award and Head Coach John Tardy taking home Coach of the Year.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Mike Ryan – Rutgers University Camden, Sr., Forward
Ryan turned in an astounding 39 points in 19 games as a senior, recording 18 goals and three assists to help the Scarlet Raptors reach the NCAA tournament. A four-time NJAC First Team selection, Ryan was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Year this season after previously earning Co-Offensive Player of the Year (2013) and Rookie of the Year (2012) honors. He closes his collegiate career as the program’s all-time leader in goals (75) and points (166).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Clevon McPherson – Stockton University, Sr.
The 2015 NJAC Defensive Player of the Year, McPherson appeared in 17 games during the regular season for Stockton, and posted two goals and an assist in those outings, but the senior was most valuable marshaling the backline of the Ospreys. McPherson anchored a Stockton defense that finished conference play with a 0.87 goals against average, which ranked first among NJAC opposition. A four-time NJAC all-conference selection, McPherson helped the Ospreys post a conference-best five shutouts during league competition.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Brayan Evo – College of Staten Island, Fr., Midfield
Evo averaged a point per game as a freshman, posting 20 points on seven goals and six assists in 20 total games played to lead the Dolphins. This marks Evo’s second major award of his freshman campaign, as he also received Rookie of the Year honors in the CUNYAC.
COACH OF THE YEAR
John Tardy – College of Staten Island
Tardy continued his turn-around of the Dolphins’ men’s soccer program in 2015, guiding CSI to a 8-8-1 overall record to go along with a strong 6-1-1 showing in league play. This marks Tardy’s second-consecutive ECAC Coach of the Year honor.
