DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2015 Division III Upstate Men’s Soccer All-Star Team, as voted on by representatives from the region’s member institutions.
Colin Phillips from Stevens Institute of Technology captured the award for Offensive Player of the Year, while St. Lawrence University’s Ryan Roethel was voted the Defensive Player of the Year. Midfielder Jethro Dede from St. Lawrence earned Rookie of the Year honors, and Bard College’s Andy McCabe took home the award for Coach of the Year.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Colin Phillips – Stevens Institute of Technology, Sr., Midfielder
The 2015 Empire 8 Player of the Year, Phillips totaled 35 points on 14 goals and seven assists in 18 games for the Ducks. The senior registered at least one point in 11 games, and also notched two hat tricks on the season. Thanks partly to his efforts, Stevens claimed its ninth-straight conference championship in 2015, and also reached the NCAA Tournament for the 13th season in succession.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Ryan Roethel – St. Lawrence University, Sr., Goalkeeper
Roethel earned Defensive Player of the Year honors after posting a stellar senior season that saw him record shutouts in 12 of 17 games in which he appeared. Roethel finished the regular-season with a mark of 12-3-2, a league-best .280 goals against average and a save percentage of .904.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Jethro Dede – St. Lawrence University, Fr., Midfielder
Dede posted nine points on four goals and an assist in 17 games played in his freshman campaign, with two of his strikes standing as game-winning goals. In addition to being the Liberty League’s Rookie of the Year, the midfielder was also the only freshman selected as First Team All-League.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Andy McCabe – Bard College
The Liberty League Coach of the Year, 2015 saw McCabe continue the turn-around he started when he took over at Bard in 2013. Under his stewardship, the Raptors posted a seven-win season, marking the highest total for the program since joining the Liberty League in 2011.
