DANBURY, Conn. – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) announced its 2015 Division I Men’s Soccer All-Star Team on, as voted on by representatives from the Division’s member institutions.
Robert Morris University stand-out Neco Brett was voted as the Offensive Player of the Year, with Francis de Vries of Saint Francis University taking home Defensive Player of the Year honors. Iona College’s Daniel Huertas collected Rookie of the Year accolades, while Dartmouth College Head Coach Chad Riley was selected as the Coach of the Year by his Division I-peers.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Neco Brett – Robert Morris University, Sr., Forward
Brett’s award comes on the heels of his third Northeast Conference Player of the Year award. The Jamaican-born striker posted 12 goals and 29 total points in the regular season to rank in the top 10 nationally in goals, points, points-per-game and game-winning goals (seven).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Francis de Vries – Saint Francis University, Jr., Defender
A force to be reckoned with in both ends of the field, de Vries garners ECAC Defensive Player of the Year honors after collecting his second-straight NEC Defensive Player of the Year award. The junior helped marshal a Red Flash backline that allowed just 16 goals in 18 regular-season outings. The New Zealand-born de Vries also recorded 13 points on five goals and three assists, tops among NEC defenders.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Daniel Huertas – Iona College, Fr., Forward
Huertas finished his first season of college competition with a league-leading 23 points on nine goals and five assists, with his nine goals standing as the most by any player in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. A league-best four of those nine strikes stood as game-winners as well. Huertas was selected as a 2015 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division I Men’s All-Northeast Region Second Team.
COACH OF THE YEAR
Chad Riley – Dartmouth College
Riley led the Big Green to an 11-5-1 overall mark and a 6-1 record in the Ivy League in his third season in charge. Dartmouth earned its second-straight Ivy League title under Riley’s direction and also qualified for the NCAA tournament, where the Big Green posted a first-round win over Hartwick. Riley was a unanimous selection for Ivy League Coach of the Year.
