OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The 2024 ECAC Track and Field Championships came to a close on Friday evening, with McDaniel taking home both team championships. The McDaniel men finished with a team score of 118, while the women held off Hood with a ten-point advantage.
The Green Terror turned in a 1-2 finish in the women’s steeple, with Bailey Mullen (12:00.60) and Maya Colavito (13:08.47) setting the tone for the day. Virginia Wesleyan’s James Johnson recorded a10:14.07 to win the men’s event by more than 20 full seconds.
The Gallaudet 4x100 relay team of Priscilla Berrios, Oceana Brown, Olivia Brown and Hannah Wetzel took first place with a time of 51.44. The Bison men followed with a first-place time of 42.93, with Andrae Green, Gareth Ashton, Eric Gregory and Trey Johnson teaming up for the honors.
Christina Sancho-Spore of Pratt Institute (5:15.66) edged out Juniata’s Camille McRoberts (5:16.68) for a thrilling finish in the women’s 1500. Hood’s Chris Sappe ended atop the podium in the men’s 1500, doing so with a time of 4:37.70.
FDU-Florham saw Brianna Fasoli (16.05) come away with a photo finish to hold off Goucher’s Aaliyah Briddell (16.14) and McDaniel’s Anna Rando (16.92) in the women’s 100 hurdles. Teammates Tyren Proctor (17.10) and Roman Arensmeyer (17.21) gave the Green Terror their second 1-2 finish of the day in the men’s race.
Katie Morgan (1:00.07) of McDaniel came away as the conference champion in the women’s 400, holding off Bianca Burke (1:01.37) of FDU-Florham. On the men’s side, Gregory (50.12) picked up his second top finish of the day with a time of 50.12.
Gallaudet was represented well in the 100, as Oceana Brown (12.57) won the women’s event and Gregory (11.01) followed with another conference crown in the tightest finish of the day. McRoberts (2:32.28) topped the podium in the women’s 800, while Sappe (2:02.99) came away with the men’s title.
Sarah Dougherty of FDU-Florham (1:05.13) emerged as the league champ in the women’s 400 hurdles, while Emmanuel Olarewju (59.11) of Goucher took home first in the men’s race. Brown (26.29) picked up another individual win in the women’s 200, with Gregory (21.86) following with his fourth event win of the afternoon.
Hood’s Aylene Noy (20:45.51) grabbed first place in the women’s 5K, while teammates Megan Mulholland (21:17.86) and Marin Bartman (21:31.14) giving the Blazers three of the top four finishers. On the men’s side, Kean’s William Mitchell (15:53.71) dominated to pick up a conference title, finishing more than 25 seconds ahead of second place.
Morgan, Rando, Piper Nagaraj and Bailey Mullen teamed up to give McDaniel a win in the women’s 4x400 relay with a time of 4:15.99. The Gallaudet group of Ashton, Trey Johnson, Gregory and Cristian Martinez-White combined to put together a first-place time of 3:25.15 to take the men’s event.
Nana Samake of Medgar Evers picked up first place in the women’s 10K, doing so with a time of 54:38.64. In the final track event of the day, Hood’s Alex Seskar (37:11.65) finished atop the podium, holding off a pair of McDaniel runners.
Chett Brunner of McDaniel came away with first in the men’s discus with a distance of 42.93m (140’ 10”), while Juniata’s Kaleah Leisher (32.08m/105’ 3”) took home the women’s crown. Jahiem Johnson of Medgar Evers turned in a first-place toss of 37.52m (123’ 1”) in the men’s javelin, while Juniata’s Emma Coolidge (30.65m/100’ 6”) emerged as the women’s champion.
Hood’s Taileen Zechman (10.03m/32’ 11”) defeated Coolidge by just over a foot in the women’s shot put to grab first, while Brunner (14.46m/47’ 5¼”) picked up his second event win of the day on the men’s side. Kenneth Davis (42.44m/139’ 3”) of Lehman was the conference champion in the men’s hammer, with Zechman producing a distance of 42.60m (139’ 9”) to snag her second title of the afternoon.
Sarah-Caulley Soto of Johns Hopkins cleared 3.03m (9’ 11¼”) in the women’s pole vault to grab first place, while fellow Blue Jay Peter Lim (3.82m/12’ 6¼”) took home the men’s crown. Wetzel (5.27m/17’ 3½”) picked up the women’s long jump championship, with Alex Brown (6.64m/21’ 9½”) of McDaniel following with a win in the men’s event.
Wetzel added to her storied day with a high jump of 1.50m (4’ 11”) for another first-place finish, with Oluwatomiwa Adegboye of FDU-Florham and Sincere Simon tying one another for first with a distance of 1.88m (6’ 2”) on the men’s side. Johns Hopkins junior Sara Bartlett (11.33m/37’ 2¼”) earned first in the women’s triple jump to edge out Wetzel, while D’Maari Brown of FDU-Florham (13.64m/44’ 9”) grabbed first on the men’s side.
Performer of the Meet was swept by Gallaudet with Eric Gregory and Hannah Wetzel earning the awards.
