LEWISBURG, Pa. – The 2026 ECAC Open Championship got underway on Friday, with the Naval Academy jumping out to a big lead after the first twelve events. The women of Navy (258 points) are followed by Bucknell (139) and Penn (116), while the Midshipmen (319) are already 150 points ahead of second place.
The women’s one-meter dive kicked off the weekend, with Navy teammates Lily Barrett (251.40) and Claire Ellish (238.45) taking the top two spots respectively. Kaitlyn Carroll of Central Connecticut State rounded out the top three, doing so with a score of 238.35.
The men’s three-meter dive followed, as teammates Jack Handelman (283.20) and Victor Dang (271.55) gave Penn a 1-2 finish. Bucknell’s Jack Krug (268.85) picked up third place, and Navy managed to snag three of the next five places.
Loyola’s 200 free relay team of Kelly Bruen, Virginia Walsh, Gabby Jones and Haley Robinson took home the women’s crown with a mark of 1:33.62 for the Wolfpack’s first event win of the weekend. Simon Thompson, Henry Cain, Evan McKelvey and Luke Lamb teamed up to set a meet and facility record in the men’s race with a finals time of 1:17.53 to add 40 points to the team total.
In the women’s 500 free, Harvard’s Carolina Daher took home the individual crown behind a time of 4:46,04, more than eight full seconds ahead of second place. Navy’s George Ivascu (4:26.05) earned first in the men’s race, holding off a late push from Hayden Bartz (4:27.16) of Loyola.
Clara Renner of Bucknell won a tightly-contested women’s 200 IM, doing so with a time of 2:02.07 to give the Bison an event win. Navy took the top six spots to dominate the men’s event, highlighted by Stephan Aguirre (1:45.22) and Noah Robinson (1:45.89) as the top two individuals.
The women’s 50 free saw Anna Vlachou (22.77) give Rutgers 20 first-place points, with Haley Robinson (23.18) of Loyola and Bucknell’s Virginia Hastings (23.60) rounding out the top three. Cain broke another meet record in the men’s 50 free, coming away with a finals time of 19.41 in another event strongly represented by the Midshipmen.
Navy’s 400 medley relay team of Georgia Andrew, Corinne Warriner, Allie Maloney and Vivi Vergara-Anglim turned in a finals time of 3:43.46 to finish atop the podium in the men’s race. The Midshipmen closed out the day with a win on the men’s side, as well, as Lamb, Robinson, Alex Park and McKelvey teams up for a time of 3:10.37, shaving 15 seconds of their prelim mark.
